Ah, awesome, I need to take more holidays.

What's the tourist density like mid summer? Crazy or not too bad?

It was obviously super busy but it's hard to compare to anything as it was our first time there.   The Eiffel tower grounds was supper busy obviously but it's not like it was an issue moving around.  We didn't go into the tower, we just walked around.  I would say the density was never really an issue, lots of room at restaurants,  no lineup anywhere or at least where we went besides the Rijks museum and we only waited 10, 15 minutes tops.

The traffic in Amsterdam is bonkers. it's like a perfect balance between chaos and order with the bicycles, vehicles and pedestrians.  It was actually surprisingly efficient moving around, quite refreshing.

This is my recollection of Amsterdam 20 or so years ago as well. Bikes seemed to be highest on the pecking order instead of cars like in North America.

Great photos. You would've been in Amsterdam at the same time as a co-worker of mine.

Camping trip at the end of the summer. Converted the wife's SUV to a small camper. Saw two bears and some elk.

We went to Eagle Lake first (east of Strathmore/Calgary) then near Banff at Two Jack Lake campground (I'd recommend Lake Side not Main).

I've been to two jack lake campground many times.  it is my favorite.  I Always tried to get the sites next to the lake.

how busy was it?

Said it was full but I'd say 2/3. Lots of no shows due to the weather not being perfect. Plus the reservation squatters.

Spent a (last) week at Falcon Lake out in Eastern MB...oldest bought a different Seadoo and was eager to try it out, so we dropped him in the water and went to drop off the trailer and join him at the beach with the tow-behind.  While we were making our way there a girl with 2 young kids (not hers apparently) comes up and asks if they can get a ride on his Seadoo...he asks us - go ahead, I don't care, as long as their parents are OK with it.  Another young man paddles up on a mini kayak...more kids show up...uncles, aunts, cousins sisters brothers...soon the whole of Ethiopia (home country) is there looking for a ride on something they've never been on or seen before.

He (we - though I only stood in the water making sure they kept out of the way of boats and were told where to hang on) spent an hour and a half or more giving the entirety of the family (except grandpa - he didn't get on it) giving rides.  2 at a time...a couple of the young ladies (pretty girls - all in uni - phew! One looked 15 but was 20+) asked if they could drive it...so of course he let them.   So much for making sure everyone has their license kiddo!  Which of course meant that the young men also wanted to "drive" it...and he made sure they tried sport mode, too.  Thing is feckin fast.  215 hp is not a slow machine in sport mode.  He took two of the dads out and made more of an effort to ahem...show them what it could do.  They came back all smiles almost giggling...

That was a fun way to spend the AM that day.  I/he and I think they, were glad they asked.  There was talk of getting boating licenses and a boat...lol.  They offered to pay for gas - no, we had as much fun, so no, no payment needed.  Granted we thought it was 3 people, not 90 minutes lmao. Still, what a blast that was for them (and us). Would recommend.  ;)

That's awesome!

Can't recall if I ever spent time there as a kid. My dad took me to Whiteshell Provincial Park all the time though.

Your son is braver than I letting strangers drive his Seadoo, I'm sure he made that families summer though!

Spent most of a summer in Ethiopia back in university, enjoyed it a lot. Nice people, especially when we figured out that shaking hands is pretty much mandatory

I was surprised he did too...the good(?) thing is it's on the water.  I learned as a kid to never let someone who hasn't grown up with "it", does not get to drive "it".  I was maybe 12-13, and we had 3 low income MB Housing houses right next to us, which always had families of Mexican Menno's in them...and we were driving my dad's snowmobile on a small field close to home, and the older kid asked if he could drive it.
Me, being the kind of idiot who thinks/thought - well, he's older and bigger...probably afraid I'd get beat up I dunno...maybe I'm actually stupid*...let him get on it so he could take it for a "ride" around the field.  He gets on...immediately PINS the throttle, it takes off, he stays where he started, and it crashed in to a tree.  Needless to say...my dad did not keep it long.  Fixed it, and sold it, never saw another sled again.  40+ yrs later and I'm still embarrassed by that story.  Feckin' idiot.  WHen's the last time anyone from Mexico saw snow or drove a sled?   ::)  At least on the Seadoo...and Falcon being a BIG lake, he'd have time to rip the cord or stop anything bad from happening, and they'd just end up in the water.  And the girls were pretty...maybe he actually does think of those things...I'd lol if he did for that reason...

*Stupid: maybe it runs in the genes.  My dad got scammed (more like he fell for it hook line and sinker) and had over $3000 taken from his bank account last week.  "John Valentine" (really dad? With an Indian accent and a name like that??  FFS) had him on the phone for OVER 3 HOURS...hang up.  Feckin' just hang up...wonder how I'll be when, and if, I make it to 80.  ;D

That's at least the 4th, if not 5th, time he's been "scammed" in the last - oh I dunno, gotta be less than 10 yrs anyway.  And he's not stupid (I think).  He can remember what town and what hotel and what they had to eat from a trip they took back in 1964 with my cousin...my grandma had a photographic memory...he's almost the same...but call him and tell him is account has been compromised...  ::) :P :banghead:

That's awesome!

Can't recall if I ever spent time there as a kid. My dad took me to Whiteshell Provincial Park all the time though.

It is pretty much the only place we go now.  No other lake or camground in MB draws us like the Whiteshell, particularly Falcon.  I'd live there - but a teardown cottage is almost $900k.   :P
