I kind of feel the same way with newer luxury cars; there's very little in the way of "luxury" in terms of actual build quality, things that feel strong, nice materials, etc.

Everything is all tech.

DriverJeff's '13 GX 460 feels extremely well built, upscale and buttery smooth. It doesn't feel cost-cut in any way, and very much like my '09 LS 460. No new cars feel like that, and I'm finding newer Toyota/Lexus products feeling very plasticky. The only exception to this IMHO is the LC.

I was really surprised how plasticky the new GX felt. I can't imagine what the Land Cruiser is going to be like. I keep thinking about that 2019 LX..

. I keep thinking about that 2019 LX..

This doesn't surprise me. It takes several years for a lesser model to be better than the previous top tier model. In this case the LX.

And the new GX ain't no LX.

Just like the GS/IS/ES aren't an LS, regardless of how good they were. There's only 1 LS, and it shows in that car's build quality.

And on the SUV side, the LX is the premium Lexus product. And a previous gen LX is undoubtedly better than a new GX.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I guess you are right. The GX felt cheaper than the old GX though, really felt like Lexus did serious cost cutting. .. Maybe I just like the full fat LC200 ..

When we went to get our GX serviced, they had the new GX in the showroom, gotta say, the wife fell deeply in love with the looks. Because it looks like a shipping crate and she loves square SUVs, Mercedes G wagen is her dream car. I was not impressed with the seats, leather or comfort and the rest of the interior seemed a cheaper grade than our 2021.
Lighten up Francis.....

I didn't care for the gun slit windshield either  The demo already had a couple bullseyes on the nearly vertical glass so I think it is going to be susceptible to flying stone. Anyhow I preferred the 4 door Defender but if it was just up to me a LX570 speaks my language.

I still think the LX570 is the ultimate SUV, IMHO.

Just finished a Toronto-Vancouver-Toronto trip with the Land Cruiser (which has the same windshield) and didn't manage any bullseyes.  My GX, on the other hand, has taken two blasts in the GTA over the past 7-8 months, destroying the windshield.  More about luck than anything, it seems.

I'm apparently a magnet for windshield damage. Trucks like a month old, took a rock bottom passenger side and it immediately also had a crack going from it. Friend of mine does windshield repairs, said there is nothing to do.  :'( :'(

Yep.  And that's a fool's game.  Tech trickles down fast.

In a 109k$ GX 550 this week, first impressions after 1st drive: easily the worst thing I've driven since the original smart fortwo. Hitting an ant at residential speeds shakes the whole structure, and on the highway you fell the same degree of control you'd have riding a barrell in the Niagara river. My Expedition tester was more refined. The 22" tires probably don't help here - I need to check the pressure in these things.

Doesn't the digital instrument cluster display the tire pressure readings? It does on my Grand Highlander.

The doctor next door came to kick tires, and I sent him to look at a Kia Telluride instead. He did find that the interior of the GX looks cheap for the price, and 3rd row up there's no trunk. Not much space in the 2nd and 3rd row either. I'm at 15.7 l/100 km so far - there's that, too.

Well that's disappointing.   Honestly I don't know why there's a 3rd row seat in the GX

Well, now you’ve done it. Can we expect the same candor in your review when it comes out?

Looking forward to reading it.  ;)

You've noticed that too, eh? LOL [emoji38]

"Reviewers" in the forums talking about "deal breakers" and similar. And then when you read their "official" review (the one they get paid for) not even a mention.....LOL [emoji38]

He has left himself an out with the “first impressions” and tire pressure thing.

No doubt he’ll get the tire pressure sorted and the thing will start to grow on him during the week.  :)
