Was it ArticSteve that was saying it was going to start at north of $100K?  Have to say it seems like a pretty decent value proposition in its segment and likely the best looking exterior to my eyes.

This to me signifies that the Toyota platform cousin Land Cruiser will likely start in the mid $70's, which is the vehicle that we could realistically replace the CR-V with in about 5 years.  Hopefully the availability issues are solved by then.

"North"    ???

Page 1

Medium equipped unit will be $100K in Canada.  Twin turbo V6 shoe horned in.  Lease only I suppose @8.5% which is what Lexus Canada is requiring for the RX.  Tax in the GX will be a mere $2000 a month for 48 mth.  Can't wait to jump on that.

$86K plus Freight and Tax = $100K

Although I think it will be $100K before tax.
The way I read it was not taxes and fees in, but MSRP.

He wasn’t far off. The mod range version is roughly 95K.

To me mid range would be the Premium at $92,500, so still a good chunk away from “north of $100k”.  That being said, it wasn’t clear in his comment if he meant “out the door price” or MSRP, I always use MSRP so that’s what I went with.

I think the Lux is minimum so that puts it north of 100k.

The way I read it was not taxes and fees in, but MSRP.

Lets start with "fees".  The manufactures have successfully trained the morons that make up the buying public that Freight and PDI is a FEE.  No Freight and PDI means NO vehicle for you.  Freight and PDI on a GX is $3K so add that on to the MSRP automatically.

TAXES.  Back in the day when a car was $25K the sales tax wasn't a killer so one could exclude it in conversation.  Now take something that sells for $90K in Ontario and it's an additional $11,700.  Consequently, those two numbers must be automatically combined.

Except we're not all in Ontario here so I think it's fair to talk MSRP + freight/PDI.

If you TRULY afford $90K, you should easily afford another $12K... $90K, $100K... it's just numbers.

Otherwise, well.... Kind of the reverse. If you don't afford extra $12K you certainly don't really afford $90K either.

Yup. Unless buying through a business to expense,  any vehicle should be cash on the barrelhead.

One nice thing about Lexus is after the doctors/lawyers/etc get bored and trade them in, they've depreciated by a huge amount but are still reliable and good for many years yet

I don't see the GX being the vehicle of choice for lawyers, doctors and other high net worth professionals... Not in any significant percentage anyway.

As an anecdotal observation from my current and previous offices parking lots in Toronto financial district, you barely see a lonely RX. They are filled with Germans and British and in recent years Tesla. I've seen few Lucids lately as well. They stand out....

We have a large community of new Asian Canadians here and judging by their vehicles and houses have money. The Lexus RX & LX is a popular choice. I think they like Toyota and gravitate to the made in Japan models as they perceive them as better put together. They are not wrong.

Don't get me wrong - there are many people which could comfortably afford these, but I'm saying I can't see these becoming the vehicle of choice for doctors, lawyers, bankers, etc.

I personally like its truck-ish looks but on the other hand it doesn't really instill luxury by design. This is exactly what appeals to me, but I don't think it does for the vast majority of people who buy six figures vehicles.

I think a lot of these will find homes in Colorado, Utah, Montana and other places like that, where there is a combination of rough-ish terrain, mountains, snow and lots of money....
I vividly remember the concentration of LRs, RR, Defenders, Land Cruisers in Aspen/Vail area was staggering years ago.

Compared to 4Runners of similar age /mileage, used GXes are often a good deal when you consider the amount of extra luxury you get, plus (in the outgoing model) that legendary V8

And they still drop in price some, just not as much as people would like.

Believe that is largely due to GX's and LX's selling in relatively tiny numbers new, so there's not a lot of them to pick from used.

I'd wager the new GX has much broader appeal than the old one, and many women especially love a stylish square SUV. Curious what the supply is going to be like

People also don't sell them. They tend to stay in the family for years. I still think I prefer a LX470 if I can find a cream puff. Don't need the fluff electronics

They didn't sell too many of these in Canada to begin with. If the numbers are accurate from the source below, they sold only 1,257 of these in Canada between 2005 and 2008.

https://carfigures.com/canada-market-brand/lexus/gx-470

Probably lots of them have left the country already - either stolen or bought & shipped overseas.

Same here.

Don't know why but I still really like the 1998-2007 version best. These, like the Land Cruisers, are known to last forever. I regularly see them with 400-500km plus on them.

This us about as close to a cream puff as you'll find these days I think. And you'll pay dearly. On the other hand, it would probably outlast me.

I found this 2004 Lexus LX 470 on AutoTrader: http://www.autotrader.ca/go/5-61114287

There’s a LX470 for sale locally that looks pretty decent.

https://www.facebook.com/share/WL8KWK4xttj5nQ34/?mibextid=gVQsCx

Bit higher mileage but also fairly low price if it’s not full of rust under the skin.
