Idiots.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a43698537/2023-chevrolet-bolt-ev-euv-ending-production/

Whaaaat?  Let's stop making the entry-level EV that most regular people could afford, in favour of electric pickups that only a few will be able to afford.  Even though it's been increasing in sales yearly.

Yeah, idiots indeed.

I hope the Silverado EV bombs - because who da fuq wants a useless EV pickup truck aside from rich idiots who just want to show off how much money they have to waste?

Perhaps, but the person who was considering a Bolt isn't going to all of a sudden pay 3x as much for a Silverado or Hummer EV.

They'll go get a Hyundai or a Kia EV instead.

A lot of fleets - my employer's included - bought Bolts because 1) EV, 2) Cheap and 3) small. With Nissan rumored to kill the Leaf the next cheapest EV will probably be the Kona and / or Soul. The MX-30 would be fun if it got a bigger battery.

The Bolt is - was - an incredibly well-rounded package, especially with the update that cured it of its city bus interior plastics.

Wondering now if GM will actually offer the Equinox EV for the amazing price they announced, or if they simply removed the "competition" to push its prices up.

I would think that with the upcoming Equinox EV said to be coming out with a price lower than the Bolt, that it likely only made sense to get rid of the Bolt.  The number of Bolts that would sell after the Equinox EV comes out would be very low.

If anything we should be mad that they got rid of the Volt, which was a lot more practical with a range extending ICE.

And they planned to get rid of Apple Carplay / Android Auto into their next EVs but still keep it into ICE line up, to generate more "recurrent" income?

Idiots.

https://www.reuters.com/technology/gm-plans-phase-out-apple-carplay-evs-with-googles-help-2023-03-31/

""We do believe there are subscription revenue opportunities for us," Kummer said. GM Chief Executive Mary Barra is aiming for $20 billion to $25 billion in annual revenue from subscriptions by 2030.

GM plans to continue offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mirroring systems in its combustion models"

I think if one could really get a look at GM's books they would find that every Bolt sold lost them money.  Ford loses $$$ on every EV sold.  Obviously they have returned to the drawing board.

EVs are for people who own a home with a double drive, garage, and money to blow, but still are on the cheap side.  They won't buy in unless they get their subsidy.

EVs are often more expensive than ICE, I think that there is a couple of reasons: the cost of producing lithium-ion batteries and limited production volume. But it has more to do with GM focus on Ultium-based. Ultium platform offers significant cost advantages and manufacturing efficiencies. This is the real reason supposedly.

According to KBB (Kelley Blue Book), the Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV are the least costly electric vehicles to own for a period of 5 years.

I don't why they couldn't use the Ultium base, we all don't need big barge to blat to shops.

And the Chevy Volt.  Have hidden government subsidies run out?  Is GM green washing?  It's hard to take GM seriously.

My son’s Bolt is a great car, so sad GM canceled it.
