Really surprised not to see the 2023 Pilot on this list.  Too new?  SavageGeese gushed over it in their review.

Only the Grand Cherokee interests me in that list.

Yeah, I can't imagine cross shopping a JGC with the other four.  All clearly 3-row family haulers with a totally different mission statement / raison d'etre.

Yeah, different brackets I'd say as well. I did enjoy my JGC when I had it and could see myself in the new one as well. Perhaps in a few years if they come out with some new engine options, the Hemi scares me & the Pentastar 3.6 is nothing that great, had that in my Wrangler. The new Mazda blown inline 6 really has me intrigued.

Yeah, if I needed a 3 row thing, I would definitely be looking at the Pilot, V6, proven platform and decent vehicle. The Highlander lost me when it went to a 4 banger.

Highlander makes sense in Hybrid trim, especially if you shlep kids around town all day.  You'll notice the fuel economy there.  It's also pretty much unobtanium.

As someone that only does 1,000km a month plus a few summer road trips (so I'm less sensitive to fuel efficiency), I can't think of a reason to choose anything other than a new generation Pilot.  Though the Mazda does intrigue me much like an MDX.

If they can make that plug in actually available, wow. Our neighbor is constantly running his kids around to various activities, all short trips around the city but the mileage really adds up. Would think a plug in would be huge for people like that

My latest mileage last few fillups according to Fuelly in my CX-5 was 15L/100km.  And that's in an NA2.5.  Short trips, lots of warm up times, etc. are the culprit.  A PHEV would do wonders for someone like me who has mostly short drives to do.

My only gripe is that the PHEV CX-70/90 only comes with the 2.5.  I'd much much much rather have access to the sweet new I6 that they developed, but then you're limited to a mild hybrid system.

That seems....not good.  My Excel calculator tells me I'm at 15.8 year-to-date over 1,832km and I haven't left city limits.  Maybe my Pilot is never really cold, parked in a garage both at home and at work.

If forced to drive one of these vehicles, I'd take the keys to the Telluride.  Easily the best looking of the bunch, and the powertrain is well suited to the task.

Thought you said you were getting 9-10L/100kms with your 3.5 EB!!!  A 2.7 should get 7-8 according to Tauri math!

What strikes me is how huge these "midsize" SUV's have become. It reinforces the idea that my next vehicle will probably be a compact CUV ( AKA early 2000's midsize)

I wish I could live in your world, where full size F150's get 7L/100km on the highway, Ford Lightnings suffer from 0 range degradation in -33 Winnipeg weather, and they get 600km range towing an RV, and where V8 Mustangs look, sound and drive like V6 Mustangs.

^^ You can get those Tauri readings  a moment in time if you keep resetting the  fuel mileage gauge. Downhill for instance. ;D

You are putting words in my mouth that I never said…

All EVs lose range at -33C, it’s not only the Lightning…in fact all cars do, it’s normal and to be expected. There are things you can do to reduce it though, e.g. pre-warm the EV to help heat up the battery pack and cabin.

And no way you can get 600km towing with any EV - if you are towing this much and far, the infra is not in place yet for towing. Just don’t buy an EV….now if you are towing once a year and that far, definitely buy an EV and rent something when you wanna tow - hard to beat $0.03c per km in an EV truck and still getting all the usefulness of one…
