Lexus’s midsize SUV looks premium but doesn’t always drive like it.

Had one of these as a demo when they were swapping the winters on the GX, not a bad vehicle at all, but like everything else with a 4 banger, the engine felt and sounded poverty spec. You cannot stuff an economy car engine into something luxurious, V6 at least or GTFO.
Lighten up Francis.....

Hmmmm, that kind of begs the question, what is the best 4 cylinder matched to a luxury vehicle in history?  Could it be the original M3?  Maybe something older?  I agree that 4 cylinder and luxury don't really match up well.  In fact, I think the best luxury vehicle is likely suited for an EV powertrain.  Just smooth power delivery, hush quiet.  If they could just make them with enough range and capable of dealing with cold weather.

The M3 wasn't a luxury car though, it was a sport coupe, its fine for that. To me, the best drivetrain is in the S65 AMG, twin turbo V12

I mean, people define luxury different.  As far as luxury powertrain, not the styling or touch points, or ride, just the engine and transmission.  The best luxury powertrains of the past have typically been exceptionally smooth, quieter, and powerful.  I can't think of a powertrain more smooth, quiet, and powerful than an EV.  It's blasphemous for me to say that as I don't like EV's at all, but much like I don't enjoy Celine Dion's music, I can't dispute her talents.

My wife says this will be her next vehicle and like many buyers of these,  she can't tell the difference between an engine sound or a dishwasher sound
 ;D

Did you have the hybrid one?

I think it was the regular one, but I'm not sure. Even the wife remarked how crap it sounded

We were considering the base plug in hybrid before we got the Crosstrek. That would probably be more lux feeling, at least when it was running off battery
