Happy wife happy life. I was really pushing for a new Rav4 hybrid at one point, but when my wife found out she could get a used RX for the same price that was that, and she still loves that car

And if grandmas ride is still good, all is fine

Kinda interested in what you think of the 2024 when it comes out though

^^ Good luck with the install! Hairdryer might help to soften the liner up a bit? It wasn’t too bad for me in the heated garage, but a little awkward to get the liner pulled out and then stuck back in.

I was swapping wheels at the same time, so installed the flaps with wheels off. Fronts you can probably do just by turning the wheels, but to get at the third screw on the rears, think the wheels will need to come off.

FYI, the third screw on the rears just goes into the car’s plastic undertray/liner. Instructions say it’s thick enough to hold the screw, and it was - but only on one side!

Other side stripped out the plastic, but luckily I had a stainless bolt and nut handy, so did that instead. A little bit awkward to get the nut on the bolt, but there’s an opening on the inside of the liner where you can reach through. Taped the nut and a stainless washer onto the end of the wrench and stuck it through. There’s room to reach in with a finger to help guide it.

If you want to be prepared, might want to pick up a couple of stainless bolts/nuts/washers just in case. 1” long #10 should do it.

Got'er done Wednesday before the cooldown, thanks! Had to do a bit of prying on the passenger fender to get the wheel liner back in, but it all went fairly smoothly

Awesome. I assume that black spray is the crown stuff? They just spray all fasteners and nooks and crannies?

At the shop where I got the 3M done I added undercoating and rustproofing for $250 or so. The rustproofing was not light like Krown, more of a clear goo

Thought it couldn't hurt, and was cheap enough

What's the black sprayed areas on the control arm pivot? Is that Subaru factory?

He would have sprayed black undercoating first, on some areas anyway, then the clear oily goo everywhere.

Subaru might have had some of the black undercoat there already too, don't really know. Got it done pretty quick after it arrived, didn't really have a good look underneath beforehand

Glad you got the flaps sorted! Looking good!

I didn’t have any rustproofing applied to mine, but I did end up with some oily goo on my fingers after the mud flap install. Not sure what I touched, but seems there was a bit of a film on stuff from the factory.

Finally! Some snow!

Bit of a tease, though. Only got maybe 8-10 cm and the temperature is just above freezing. There’s snow on the side streets, but as soon as you get on a main road it’s all plowed and wet.  :P

Might get some more snow today though, and temps are supposed to drop. Roads should be nice and slick for tomorrow.  :D

That neighborhood looks gorgeous with the mountains in the background, chalet style (?) homes, big pine trees...very nice.

Very nice Crosstreks guys.

One Ottawa dealer is saying June-July deliveries for 2024 models if you put in a deposit now.

If Subaru offered one with the WRX engine for less than $40k all in, there would be one in my driveway.  ;D

I don’t live on the cul-de-sac. Just out for a drive.  :)

And big tease again for the snow. Nakiska got 5 cm last night, Sunshine and Louise got zilch.  ::)  :P

Barely got a dusting here last night, but at least it’s colder today. Minus 15, so hopefully no slushy mess on the roads.

Yeah, in an area where you hope for regular snow, it's good to have a vehicle that feels the same way. I think I was saying before, to me the AWD on these things feels like a 4WD truck in 4Hi, a great feeling.

Add the low/wide/light feeling of these things, and the grip of those Hakka's, and not sure you can get much better

^^ Yeah, I agree. One difference I find, though, is that the Yukon in 4Hi wants to plow through turns. Crosstrek just bites and powers through nicely. Feels almost rear biased.

Does anyone else besides Subaru even make proper AWD anymore? Even Audi Quattro is slip ‘n grip Haldex now AFAIK.

I guess GR Corolla is full-time. Maybe Honda’s SH-AWD as well?

If you want one let me know. I have to let the dealer know on Monday I am passing on the 2023 outdoor floor model. I'll flip it to you for $1000 over MSRP.  ;D
