The wagon-like Outback dares to be different in a conservative sort of way.

I find it annoying that the trim is not listed in the title of the article. Shouldn't have to get to the fifth paragraph to know exactly which model is being talked about.

Always loved wagons,  just don't like the front grill on this one, I usually like them more square but that's my german taste.   the interior is descent.

We could have ended up with an Outback if a base version was in stock when we were looking for Crosstreks, but they were 8 to 9 months out at the time

Happy we didn't. I grew with a Volvo 145 wagon but always found wagons clumsy with that big *ss

That's why I like them, lots of room and low.  Roof rail are easier to access too.

Wagons have a great advantage in that you can have a ski box and still fit in the garage. Vans and CUVs no.

I always put it in my titles as it's info I like to have as a reader.

Edit: we have an Onyx and Premier XT locally in the press fleet. If not for my wife's PHEV criteria, I would probably buy the Onyx after its fleet duty to replace the Odyssey.

When my neighbour needed a new car right away after getting his RDX stolen, he walked into our local Subaru dealer just as a customer cancelled his purchase of a base, black Convenience. With dark coploured aftermarket alloys, it looks really cool and he kept the steelies for winter. IIRC, this is less expensive than my Crosstrek Limited, although you are stuck with the dual screen setup and need to twist the key to start the car (probably more theft-proof though!)

Always wondered how cancelled orders were handled. Next up on the waiting list or some schmuck wandering the sales floor? Likely whoever they can suck more $$$ out of.

Yeah, a 2023 Convenience Outback is only a grand more than the Outdoor Crosstrek and still comes with Eyesight, heated seats and a heated wheel. Same engine so would be slower, but hard to the beat the value for the dollar if you need the extra size

No idea if there was a waiting list. Convenience trim sells pretty well here, easy to spot in the summer with their plastic wheel covers.

That was probably just an oversight.  Normally it is in the title.

FWIW, only the Onyx looks like that with the blacked-out trim.
