It is weight, and we're not adding a few hundred pounds building it residential grade, it's going to be 2-3x heavier. You don't have a vehicle in your garage suitable enough to tow that.

Tow what? I am talking 3/4 or 1 ton B class.

Some care and attention would go a long way with RV's and how they are assembled, even using the same construction methods/materials.  We had cupboard door inserts falling out and actually doors coming off in our current unit due to shitty assembly.  And it was only towed once, from the dealer to our lot where it has been parked for 4 years.

That's what you get for a house on wheels for 30k.  Ooops, I mean 50-60k with the new pricing.  I'm expecting RV pricing to come down sharply in the next year.

Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

It's a little bit weight, but mostly cost.

Go check out an Airstream.  You'll see how something can weigh little, but still be built with quality.  You pay for it, though.

A good sail boat is crafted well and is made light, so it is possible.  But it’s mostly cost, so for lighter and good quality it costs a lot of money, so they go lighter with cheaper quality to keep it somewhat profitable.  But there is no excuse for shoddy assembly.

Thats my issue, the materials that they use are highly questionable and their assembly QA is absolutely not there.
Lighten up Francis.....

Check out this BC manufacturer.  These aren't family trailers, but fantastic otherwise.  Their 5th wheel version is of interest to me.

They've never been cheap.  What they never had though were units in stock for sale.  Always a year wait minimum.  Now I see units available.  I looked at the loaded in stock 5th wheel and it would be just shy of $100K CAD.  :-X  Telling that they list everything in USD.

They also sell those units with a lift kit.

Wife and I went to an RV dealer a few weeks ago.....why are all RVs built by wish.com?!?!!

Check out the Alto with retractable roof. Got to see how they are built. Aluminized honey comb panels for lightness and strength.

I was pretty dang impressed. King size bed, too!

Bigfoot is still around. They are good but as they say you pay for it.

I’d looked at those before, but thought they were too small. Thanks for the reminder - just saw they have a double-axle 24’ that looks really good. Love the construction on those and also the interior. Nice to have something that doesn’t look like the inside of grandma’s 1970s farm house.  :P

Escape looks solid too, but still too small. Wet bath is just not going to cut it for us. And interiors are still very meh, even the “contemporary” one.

So a toilet seat and 5 gallon pail is out of the question?  ;D

Wife and I went to an RV dealer a few weeks ago.....why are all RVs built by wish.com?!?!! Just hot garbage when it comes to quality. No matter if its a $20k rig or $200k, still just poorly screwed together with cheap materials. Salesmans excuse, "oh, its because of weight". I'll gladly take something a few hundred lbs heavier thats got the appropriate amount of hardware, glue and real wood.

Sounds like you need a vintage GMC.    ;D
