Assuming no insurance coverage I'd take the hood off and see what kind of condition the hinges are in.

This looks like a DIY job.  Cost out an after market hood if available.   The head light can't be too much of a problem.  Amazon, Ebay, USA though.

And this morning....

Sent from my SM-S901W using Tapatalk

I see a lot of this sort of thing driving up North in Alberta but it is often moose and because they are so tall, they tend to move into the windshield.

That happened to a friend in a 1996 Jetta at 90-100 kph. Her daughter wanted to go shopping with her but since she hade homeworks to do our friend told her to stay home and study.

The moose ended up more or less sitting on the passenger seat. Our friend was ok, anyone sitting on the passenger seat would not have been that lucky.

So, so scary.  Glad everyone was okay.

8 people who have to get out of bed early and have jobs I bet.
Maybe, but what if it was young drivers and the elderly?  Then it would make me question if it's mostly because of the deer population, or the people who are driving the cars.  Obviously with no deer, there isn't any accidents, so by no means am I saying that the fault is 100% on the driver, but we all know that certain groups are more accident prone than others.  Living here in NB, growing up in a small town, and doing a lot of kms on back roads, I have never hit a deer, or any wildlife.  I don't remember my parents ever having this issue either.

I lived my first 19 years in NB and never saw a live deer, saw a few on truck hoods being paraded, a few moose, but no deer.
Moved to Ontario and it's almost expected to see some if you drive for 1/2 hour or more in the countryside.

Interesting take on how attractive dealerships are, at least in the US. Assumed the Honda/Toyota availability issue means they have a hard time getting inventory. Not sure that's the case in Canada, Honda dealers here seem to be swimming in (expensive) stock

Brands with DECLINING buyer demand:
— Honda
— Ford
— Stellantis (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram)
To be clear, this refers to dealers buying other dealerships. Not consumers buying cars.
(Via Kerrigan Advisors)

EXPLAINED
-Honda declining due to lack of AVAILABILITY. (Same with Toyota)
-Ford: Declining due to lack of RELIABILITY.
[Also trying to shift their brand to EV, but their customer base isn't following]
-Stellantis: Declining due to lack of AFFORDABILITY.

I hit a deer a few years back. It was considered a no fault accident since it was with wildlife. Might be worth looking into.

Manual transmissions for the win:

I was just looking at our local Mazda dealer's website, and spotted this:

2019 Mazda3 Sport GT, in that extra cost Soul red, 46,800 km, 3 pedals - 23,940$. A new one is $34,060.

Still can’t get my head around paying 70% of new for a 4 year old car.

It's no fault as long as you hit the animal only.

If you hit something AFTER you hit the animal, it becomes at fault.

Was told this (Ontario) after I hit that raccoon with my LS.

Well that is seriously weird. Par for the insurance course I guess.

The car market is turning.

I bought a wholesale 2004 Civic from our local Subaru dealership. 300k, decent body, two sets of wheels/tires, auto, a/c, good service history (recent timing belt even) but does have a litany of small accidents throughout the years (most in its first two). I paid $1400. With all the auction fees around $1750.

Searching through the paperwork I found the dealership bill of sale from January 2008 when the previous owner bought it. A 4 yr old Civic with 157k sold at the Honda dealership RETAIL for $4655!!! If that car still had 157k I could easily get $7000 today.

I’m keeping that bill of sale as proof of how messed up the car market has become.

A GT in Soul red (+$450) was probably more than that, but my point was that manuals help with getting a better price point. Market penalty appears to be near $4k!

15 years of inflation policies + supply disruption + rising fuel prices + requirements (demands) for electronic safety do dads has driven new prices insane dragging along the used. Especially something cheap on fuel...

Despite the stock problems it seems to be a good time to be a Toyota dealer, at least in the US
