:censor: hell man.

Any idea what the insurance implications will be?

Also, somewhat ironic that the first 4 letters on the license plate are CYAH..

That is/was a great looking car! I almost forgot about those entirely, not many around.

Sorry to hear about the deer, talk about terrible luck. Is he able to go through insurance on this one? Not sure if deer count as an 'at fault' or what?

Looking at that damage photo, it actually might be savable; hood, grille, headlamp, maybe pull on the core support to straighten it out a bit. Looks more cosmetic than anything else, from this angle at least. Did the bags blow?

The bags didn't blow, and I thought it looks savable as well, but him & his Dad took it to CarStar already & they're saying it's not fixable. I guess the motor mounts broke and the engine is pushed back & the front subframe is pushed back a little too by the sounds of it. They're gonna do an estimate to fix it & then they'll figure out the best way forward. Tough call to use insurance or not, will see what the estimate comes back at & then go from there. Kinda 6 of one & a half dozen of an other, use insurance & his rates go up, or pay cash outta pocket.

Apparently its the 8th car they've gotten in that have hit deer in the last 2 weeks on the same stretch of road outside of Perth.

V6 half ton with a bush bumper.

Speaking as an old man who was once young. Accidents tend to find young men for some reason.
Good luck.

So this will essentially be a sunk cost for the kid.  Either go through insurance and then deal with big increases in premiums, pay to have it repaired out of pocket, or just scrap it and buy something else.

Maybe get something with better lighting and hope that maybe he realizes that his driving skills are not the best and to maybe be more cautious (although this deer accident might not have been 100% his fault).

I asked the same, but I guess his Dad said "you wouldn't want it"... have to take his word for it as he's a hunter  ;D

Tough one, so he'll have to weigh his options.

The sun was up already this morning, so it wasn't a lighting issue. A little more cautious might have helped, but as I said earlier, there were 8 deer hit on the same stretch of road in the last 2 weeks according to the guy at the body shop.

Deer around municipal areas have become a huge problem. Year round bow zone would solve it. With food prices high this should be a no brainer.

His Dad lives in the country, so it's all farms & back roads kinda deal... but I do agree about the deer population getting outta control.

It would be interesting to see the demographic of the 8 people who hit deer in that area.

Maybe, but what if it was young drivers and the elderly?  Then it would make me question if it's mostly because of the deer population, or the people who are driving the cars.  Obviously with no deer, there isn't any accidents, so by no means am I saying that the fault is 100% on the driver, but we all know that certain groups are more accident prone than others.  Living here in NB, growing up in a small town, and doing a lot of kms on back roads, I have never hit a deer, or any wildlife.  I don't remember my parents ever having this issue either.

I've always considered a deer strike to be a random act of nature. Not much to be done when it jumps out in front of you on the highway.

Yeah, I used to think 'what's wrong with people who hit deer' as I drove in rural areas for decades and never came close, then in one stretch I hit something like one a year for 4 years

Seemed to be a combination of the area I was in, a lot of time driving at dusk, and pure luck

One deer hit the side of my truck so hard I had to get the tire dismounted and cleaned as deer hair in the bead was giving me a slow leak

Ah :censor:, that sucks Gurgie.  Glad everyone is OK.  Looks about the same as my kids Focus last July when he smacked one.

Gurgie, glad he's doing OK.  Been there, done that....I was on the TCH a few years ago in the Outback, saw deer down the road in the median (to my left), was keeping an eye on them, suddenly one ran out in front of me coming from my right....never saw it at all....until I saw it's eyes through my windshield  :P  Car was fixable in my case.

f-ing deers...  so scary when i have to drive near them.

after having hit a freakin rabbit in the merc jumping out of a ditch onto the road i realize there's probably good chance i wouldn't see deer coming at me at dusk either.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D
