Bella's Son wrote off his 2010 Mazda 3 on Saturday morning. Only had liability insurance on it since it was basically disposable when he got it back in June 2019. Been trying to find a replacement all week & basically getting the same car as his with maybe a little less mileage is now $5k - $7k asking with work needed! :banghead:

My oldest has his 2011 Mazda 3, again with only liability coverage on it, might get him to look into full coverage now because replacing it for what we paid 2yrs ago is :censor: impossible!

Ended up finding a 2010 Kia Forte Koup SX 6spd manual with the 2.4 on Facebook Marketplace on Friday. Kid went to check out the car on Sunday & put a deposit, picked it up yesterday. Overall the car is quite good & probably worth more in today's market than the $4k he got it for. Has 165k kms on it, everything works, small bit of rust around the driver's side rear wheel well. It wasn't safetied so he's gotta do that, from what I can tell it might need rear brakes, or they might JUST pass. Everything else checks out. Has an engine light on for the O2 sensor, so if Canadian Tire can do it for cheap during the safety, I told him to get it done. Needs a good interior cleaning after winter use, but not horrible since it has weather techs in it. Has heated leather seats that are in excellent shape, AC works, sunroof, has an aftermarket remote starter that works as well. Based on the crazy market out there I'm guessing he could sell it for $6.5k after the safety is done. Drove it briefly yesterday & it runs strong, short gearing so it pulls more than you think it should   Will snap some pics this weekend.

Nice!  Weather Techs in place are always a good indicator.  ;D

Glad you got that sorted - happy and safe motoring to the young man.

Hope this one has a good engine.  The 2.4 is one of the ones with issues, and that mileage is about when it happens.  They're not all bad, but it's a roll of the dice.

Seems like the 2010's have been reliable from my research, fingers crossed.

Yeah, it's possible their issues started in 2011 with the release of the GDI engines.  Hopefully this one is trouble free.

The 2.4 in my 2010 Sonata was a fine engine.  Didn't mind its visit to the drag strip.

Yeah, in 2010 it wasn't a GDI engine from my research. Funny part I read was how they did a more aggressive throttle programming for the Koup vs the sedan of the same generation. Explains why it drove the way it did yesterday when I took it for a spin.

Fingers crossed.  I actually think Kyundai's were decent in the 2000's era.  It's the 2011+ that really started having issues, so it looks like your son may have picked up a solid car.  Best part is he paid a third of what a Civic with that mileage would have cost him.

Agree. Older Hyundai’s were solid. Anything newer (and continue to be so) is a big risk.

Nice! I like the looks of those Koups, it sounds like he dodged the Kia/Hyundai engine issues by one year, and IMO $4K for a good used car in today's market is a steal, especially with only 165K.

Man, are you :censor: kidding me?  Is this kid a collision magnet?  Maybe he should start considering comprehensive insurance on his vehicles from now on...

BTW, that's a great looking car.  I think this was right after Kia hired Pete Schreyer from Audi to come design their cars, and this was one of his first designs.

Yup, exactly right it was after they scooped him up from Audi.

That is/was a great looking car! I almost forgot about those entirely, not many around.

Sorry to hear about the deer, talk about terrible luck. Is he able to go through insurance on this one? Not sure if deer count as an 'at fault' or what?

Looking at that damage photo, it actually might be savable; hood, grille, headlamp, maybe pull on the core support to straighten it out a bit. Looks more cosmetic than anything else, from this angle at least. Did the bags blow?
