I hit a deer a few years back. It was considered a no fault accident since it was with wildlife. Might be worth looking into.
It's no fault as long as you hit the animal only.

If you hit something AFTER you hit the animal, it becomes at fault.

Was told this (Ontario) after I hit that raccoon with my LS.

Well that is seriously weird. Par for the insurance course I guess.

I think it also matters whether it was a wild animal or not, hit a pig, it's collision, hit a deer, it's comprehensive.   Something stupid like that, dunno if it's still that way.

Animal at large.  Period

No Police Report one is SOL insurance wise.

Not surprised to see Ford declining....they've gone all in on expensive trucks and expensive EV, with almost nothing to offer to a lot of market segments.  The Edge, Explorer, and Escape are afterthoughts in their respective segments.  Who in their right mind buys an Explorer at these prices?  Seems to me F-150 is more than competitive, just expensive, as are all full-size trucks.  But otherwise, you're not visiting a Ford dealership other than as an obligation to family members employed there....

Guess we'll find out in the next day or so, repair estimate came in at $7k (likely heavily padded with lotsa new parts). Insurance has him in a rental for now to a max of $3k rental fees. He's hoping it gets resolved in the next day or so as he's off on a family vacation Friday morning for a week. Good part is he's returning the rental & will pick one up upon his return if there's no settlement by then. And apparently the insurance company didn't require a police report, claim is being processed.

I'm getting this info 3rd party as him & his Dad are dealing with it...

I was surprised how the vehicles sold per dealer varied. Despite the Toyota and Subaru dealers having empty lots, they seem to be selling tons of vehicles per dealership, which might explain why the Toyota dealers here at least seem mostly content with selling at list price

Combination of good vehicles (one wag on the twitter thread said 'the best way to deal with a 7 year loan is with a 15 year car') and a restricted dealer network

I'm struggling with this one.

Whose name was this Forte in anyways?

Young man who is automatically in the high risk group, gets a 13 year old $5000 KIA insured for comprehensive, smashes it up and is getting it either fixed or the value reimbursed without any Police Report indicating that it wasn't an at fault accident, plus he gets a rental endorsement  ???

Not falling for this one  ;D

He's 21, car in his name, had the Mazda 3 registered & insured since June 2019 in his name. Coverage on the Kia was $238/month for full coverage. One way on the Mazda was around $150/month or more to start.

Nothing to fall for buddy, he's driving around in a rental as of yesterday morning. Maybe all the deer reminance on the car is enough for the insurance company

That was a thing when my motorcycle got totaled. Everything with a scratch on it was priced out as replacement, which added up fast

What a bummer! My son is picking up his new Bolt on Wednesday, I sure hope he’ll have better luck!

Nice. How long did he have to wait?

3 and a half month. His employer is part of the preferred program at GM so he got a nice rebate plus minimal wait time. With this program the order goes right to GM, no need for the dealer to wait to have an allocation to order the car.

Nice. I was quite smitten with the Bolt at the autoshow. Love the small size and roomy interior. It would make a great city runabout

I have to say I’m mightily impressed with the Bolt. Drove back 200 km with my son yesterday from the dealer and arrived home with enough juice for another 200 km. The car is well finished, quiet, no road or wind noise,  very comfortable and the suspension is much more compliant than my Mach-E. Certainly the perfect commuter car.

Six years ago the repair estimate on the Forester was $8K, insurance paid $12.5k for total loss.
What's the Kia worth, even in this crazy market?

Update: insurance settlement came thru yesterday afternoon at $6230, minus $500 deductible gives him $5730 in his pocket. Rental has to be returned tomorrow.

That's more than he paid for it, isn't it?  If he keeps going at this rate, he'll be able to afford an LS after his 6th or 7th write-off.

My eldest looking at upgrading from her 2014 Accent. Looking at what it’s worth on the market and damn she can sell it for more than she paid for in 2019. Only one in the country with less km’s than hers is listed at $10,990  :o

Unless you don't have to buy a replacement, the high price one may fetch when selling an old car means nothing...other than how expensive the cars - new or old, have become in the past few years.

That would make a pretty decent downpayment on a new CX-5, CX-30 or whatever  :D

Bingo. The difference between a 3 y.o., 60 000-ish km's CX-30 or CX-5 vs a new one is in the 2-3 k$ range. And Mazda has inventory and / or short ordering delays, as others here found out.
