They seem to be making a big deal about the factory 20" wheels. What year was that Escalade? My father has a 2005 GMC Yukon Denali rolling on factory 20" wheels similar vintage?

The one in the video is either an 05 or 06, and the factory optional 20's were only available in 05/06 as well. The truck in the video is identical to mine, down to the wheels....and it's probably only the 3rd or 4th I've ever seen with those particular wheels. They were a $3K option in 2006, so not many takers.
If your father has factory 20's on an 05 Denali it would be a very similar deal...17"s would've been standard and it would've been a pricey upgrade to go to the 20's, which would be fairly uncommon today.

OK thanks. I remember the deal clearly. They had Denali's (20-30k off sticker). He paid $50k out the door. The only option choice was rear DVD or 20s for the same price. I told him to roll with the dubs.  ;D They are an awesome looking wheel. 18 years later he is still driving it. 1 owner Denali.

I like the current crop of big GM SUV's, but the old ones had no trunk at all with the 3rd row up, and gun-slit rear view:

They are also a hassle to live with in more urban communities. The things keep me out of certain, if not all, parkades and even surface parking lots and ramps aren't designed for vehicles so big. And I don't get the 2nd row captain chairs in these things - so much wasted space.

That being said, they make sense in rural communities where their truck genes can shine. But for 90% of families, a unibody SUV is a better option. There's a reason a niche product like the Taycan appears to outsell Expedition, Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade combined in our province (ok, maybe pushing it with the Cadillac - so many airport limos!)

Awesome. If he keeps it outta the salt it'll last him forever. I think Denali and Escalade were the same in terms of options; big wheels, DVD and sunroof were the only selectable options - in Canada at least. Mine does not have DVD, but I also don't own any DVDs, so no loss  :P

That looks like a K2XX, and I agree that the rear cargo area configuration isn't ideal. Course, if you use the 3rd row regularly, you're better off opting for the extended wheel base, which would give you a lot more space behind the seats. I don't like the raised floor in that cargo area, notice how it's got an rearward incline, stuff tends to slide back. Had a watermelon roll right out of a presser and explode on the driveway once. Small thing, but it can be irritating.

Full size SUVs and pickups will barely fit in most downtown parkades. Older parkades tend to have lower ceilings so sometimes I expected to scrape the top of the vehicle, but I also find it interesting how tight the parking lots are considering larger vehicles were the norm when these parkades were built.

Did they have a bunch of left over raised cargo areas from the Uplander or something? Awful design choice. Built a crappy minivan and complained that no one was buying minivans anymore.

Mostly because they were too lazy to engineer fold in the floor 3rd row that everyone else (even Ford) had at the time.

Architects. Urban planners. I've seen them at work. They still think downsizing is a thing. Built everything around their SAABs (old TopGear reference here ;D)

New parkades tend to be friendlier to larger vehicles though.  ???

Parking garages – particularly underground ones – are expensive. Like, really expensive. No shock that they are not particularly friendly to larger vehicles.

Not here, and city complains when developers have the guts to include a parkade - they want everybody on bikes and transit. Drove my Dad to an appointment in our new downtown mega hospital, the one used as a backdrop in CTV's Transplant, and the Crosstrek felt like a Yukon in there.

GMT900 here. I love this thing. 275,000 km on it and it still drives like the day it was new.

Couple pics I’ve snapped in the last week, just because.

I will say that the third row seating in these things is terrible. Probably fine for kids, but that’s about it.

The 3/4 ton. Now that's a SUV. Really wish GM would bring it back.

One of my specialty’s is clean GMT800’s. Some of these I really wished I kept. In particular the grey 2006 Denali, that was absolutely mint in and out. I’d love a 3/4 ton newer body like Heli has! So hard to find.

^^ Love the one in the top pic!

I think the GMT800 looks so much better without all the plastic cladding on the higher trims.

Beauty trucks. Those 3/4 tons are sweet, and I tend to agree with Heli that the non-cladded trucks look cleanest, but they're also the first to start showing rust / flaking paint. The Denali has the optional Denali 20's we were talking about earlier.

Someone near the family cottage has a clean looking 3/4 ton Quadrasteer Yukon XL, I keep trying to catch them outside or in town when I am up there, but haven't had any luck yet. Would really like to get my hands on it  ;D

I love the look of the single tone 3/4 tons. I always liked that wheel design.
