In 2019, GM closed their longstanding Lordstown Chevy Cruze assembly plant. 1700 workers in total. UAW workers with enough seniority bumped those working at Bowling Green KY Corvette plant. People bumped only to acquire the necessary years to qualify for the GM pension and health coverage. Nobody wanted to go. It's 500 miles away. Interstate all the way though.
If you look at recent videos of the inside of that Corvette plant all you see is old, obese, disheveled assembly line workers many that use to assemble Chevy Cruzes; the ultimate GM POS.
Because the Lordstown real estate market literally collapsed, these people could not sell their homes and relocate even temporarily. Consequently, many live in trailers and in their vehicle and drive home on weekends.
It's not at all surprising that the Bowling Green plant suffers from major quality control problems. Many youthful Bowling Green assemblers that knew their Corvettes, but lacked seniority, were booted out in late 2019 or early 2020 and replaced by worn out, disillusioned and almost impossible to terminate UAW members.
