Thanks guys. I am eager now to tackle the other fender, but the weather for the coming long weekend (family day in Ontario on Monday) looks marginal for outdoor painting.

It's something how much painting you managed to do it in middle of the winter!

Got the other fender done with the clear coat trick today....About 3 hours. Guess it beats actually re-painting, especially since this fix cost me $0 so far (I had everything I needed lying around already).

Looks great.  Random question, I know you have a bunch of older iron, do you store all of it indoors or are some just with quality cover?

Obviously inside is best, and in winter I put everything inside when I can. This year I only have this MGB outside which is under a couple covers. You can see the DTS in one of the photos too...it's outside with a good quality cover. The DTS I drive regularly (once or twice a week), but if it's clean and iam not gunna use it for a few days I've been covering it to keep it outta the elements.

A really good cover runs about $250. However, I've been using Kayme covers from Amazon and they're nearly as good and about $80-90.

Yes indoors is certainly the best option.  Would an enclosed carport be better than a good car cover but not as good as an indoor storage?  I am considering getting a hard top one from Arrow (that’s the brand, bought through Walmart online), wondering if it could be an okay option for winter storage, but also able to use year round as covered storage.

Yeah, I've used those in the past, just the plastic tarp type, and as long as you set them up well they're pretty good. One of those, and a car cover, and you're set.

The good outdoor car covers are really good, until there's wind....if the wind gets the thing blowing around there's a chance it'll cause abrasions to the paint....especially if the car has dust/dirt on it under the cover. So if you do use just a cover, it's good to have some kinda wind block, and ensure it fits well and is tied down well to keep wind from getting under it.

Finally had a decent Sunday here so I was able to make some god progress, knocking a few annoying jobs off the list:
- Replaced the headlamps with a matching set - thanks to a friend for the matching units.
- Fixed the turn signals (dirty connection on the multi-function switch)
- Replaced the mangled vinyl gear shift boot with a new leather one from ebay - and repainted the shift pattern on the knob
- Polished the fiberglass hardtop and the plastic quarter windows
- Polished the remaining 2/3s of the car that wasn't done previously

I took it out for a ride with Firm Jr, and after a few minutes of driving the clutch hydraulics died, to a point where there was basically zero clutch action. Wrestled it into 2nd and limped home. Found the clutch master cylinder dry, but no signs of leaking, and the slave cylinder and rubber hose had recently been replaced by the previous owner. Kinda mysterious as I was pretty sure I checked the fluid level at some point since purchasing, but maybe not.....Anyway, I filled it, bled it, and it's working perfectly again. Took it for another ride and it worked great the whole time....Will need to keep an eye on it.

So, now it's officially roadworthy! Next big job is to cut out and patch up the rust in the dog-legs and then a good interior detail. Plus there's still a good list of little jobs to tackle.

Ignore the filth....too cold for detailing.

Yes, I am not much of a welder, but the fact that this car is actually really solid except for those two spots, I am going to do it right. My buddy (who's place I store my other cars at) is a body guy for CarStar, so has way better tools and skills than I do when it comes to metal working. We're going to do it together at his place and hopefully I'll be able to absorb some of his talents.

Facking awesome.  What kind of paint did you use for the shift knob?

That's a good way to pick up some skills. I've become a bit interested in welding lately. Have watched a lot of You Tubes on the subject.

The good ole days!  When dashes and consoles were constructed with phillip screws.  Right up to 1990 in fact on American metal.
