Well it’s official. I finally know someone with a Lightning. Brother in law of my neighbour, who also lives in the neighbourhood. He’s a contractor, renovations.

I think contractor/Reno's is where the Lightning makes the most sense.  Enough range to toodle around town as needed, can run tools off it, and haul supplies to/from.

7500km on mine now…used 2,643kwh since purchased, $237.87 total in hydro for a nice $0.032 per km!

So your all in cost for electricity is less than 10 cents per kWh? Or are you using the SmartElectric method of calculation and ignoring taxes, delivery, etc

Also, if this was your old 8L/100km pickup you used to boast about, your fuel cost would have been about $1000. So about $750 saved.

Based on this, your ROI is going to be....long.

^^^I can verify this.

Just looked at my Hydro bill.  Tauri lives in Winnipeg, so his rates will be identical to mine. 

We pay $0.09324 per kwh.
There is also a basic charge of $9.20, regardless of how much electricity is used. 

On top of that is 2.5% city tax
7.0% Prov. tax
5.0% GST
5.0% GST on city tax (wtf?)

SO, my last bill, I used 804kwh last month.  I paid $96.47 all-in.  Divided, that works out to $0.1199 per kwh.  That all-in number will get lower the more you use (by fractions of a penny), as the basic charge gets distributed over more kwh's. 

So, long story short, Tauri is fudging his math a little.  Based on his kwh usage, and an assumption that he's paying 11.5c/kwh (a little lower than my rate, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt), the amount of money he spend to run his truck is closer to $303.00

Still really low, but yeah, shenanigans nonetheless.

I haven’t had it for a year…we are now approaching the time I drive lots again - my original estimated savings back when I calculated my ROI between $1400-$1800, so $7k to $9k over 5y…

But really the ROI is much higher, gas prices have climbed substantially….if I assume 12L, it would have cost me $1200-$1300 in gas!

Also accounted for the carbon tax credit $792 for 2023 - I estimated low $600, $3000 over 5y (this was low….)…don’t forget everyone driving a gas car is giving me money [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Particularly if the cost of the truck is reasonable, meaning more or less same as gas equivalent. But currently they are so expensive.

The problem is…it’s not - even after the increases….

A F-150 XLT similarly equipped with a 2.7L engine will run you at ~$69k. If you add the 7.2kwh generator, you have to upgrade to the hybrid, that will be ~$75k…

The XLT Lightning is already fully loaded @79k…

1/2 tons have become VERY expensive in the last few years - I bought my 2020 Lariat for @55k? That same truck now is worth $86k…

….one can only hope. Discounts continue to be non-existent beyond the rate - 3.99 I think and $750 bonus for a factory order.

Could those have been two trucks that were ordered by customers who paid deposits, only to have their allocations 'cancelled' by the dealer once the trucks arrived and they didn't want to pay any further dealer markups?

Seems to me like any Lightning that gets ordered already has a buyer with a deposit, UNTIL the truck comes in and the dealer wants their ADM.
