How the hell do you sentence yourself to a Tucson, equinox, Rogue or, god forbid, an Eclipse cross, when these exist?!?!? Mazda does small cars so well its not even funny.

Yeah, but aren't all these wagons in heels around that mark?!?! I don't imagine an Equinox/Kia is half the cost of these to make the downgrade worth it.

Yeah, but aren't all these wagons in heels around that mark?!?! I don't imagine an Equinox/Kia is half the cost of these to make the downgrade worth it.

At this price I start looking at used SQ5s and get a proper punchy engine.

Or at this price I like a creampuff 2016 Volvo XC60 with the turbocharged inline 6 (320 HP and 360 torques..) No question. After this year the 4 cylinder paint shakers showed up. It's depressing.

Prices are climbing so rapidly it's hard to keep up. 50K used to be getting into X3 territory not long ago.

I liked the X3 40M package thing sitting in the showroom but it was $80k  Looks like that it what a good 6 is going for these days.

$45k for a Compass?!?!?!?!

Everything is expensive these days.

I still think of the base Cherokee as starting under $30k like when it debuted. Turns out the base price is $40k. Meanwhile a base FWD Compass is $33k and a Renegade is $36k but at least has standard AWD.

List price with the second line car makers used to be a joke, there were always discounts

On top of that dealers seem to be ordering in mostly the expensive trim lines to max out their profit

They wouldn't be ordering them if they didn't sell.

I think once you hit a certain price point people have an expectation of certain features and amenities. Historically it has always seemed to me that Canadians tended to buy higher trims of larger vehicles and the majority would rather a smaller vehicle that a base larger vehicle. But then you'd go to the U.S. and see tons of Grand Cherokees and Explorers and Tahoes with cloth seats indicating that Americans buy size more than anything else.

60 is the new 50 for compact premium SUVs with few stand-alone options. Freight, PDI and newly born dealer fees are pushing over $3000 !!!

People don't buy them, they make itty bitty payments for a long long time.

The Compass I reviewed in 2020 was $45k, a price that made Fob spit out coffee at his computer monitor.
