Looks like Toyota isn’t expecting to sell tons of this - I mean to be expected…given the kind of $$ they are asking for:

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a42256447/toyota-prius-sales-expected-low/

Might be a success in Canada, all the cab drivers will need to replace their Prius some day.

Went to a launch event last evening, so I'm probably the first here to have actually seen this in the flesh. It's very sleek, so sleek that I don't think cabbies will buy them. Think 1986-89 Celica hatchback sleek. I barely fit in the back, little headroom, and the trunk looks smaller than before. Up front the sport coupe vibe is strong, seating is very low, and the BZ4X-style "ergonomics" have you lowering the small steering wheel to be able to glance at the instrument screen.

In other words, Toyota built a Prius for car guys!

Edit: this is the Prius Prime, not the regular hybrid.

And this is the interior, viewed from the back seat. Rear doors have an electric actuator, with a mechanical push-button should the gizmo stop working. Hatch is electric.

Any EV specs on the Prime?
I love it when a plan comes together.

Specs have been published awhile ago, more important here was the Canadian on-sale date: Spring 2023.

Prius Prime?

Not yet...that press introduction is separate from the normal Prius.

Have been reading on the Prius forum that the all electric range of the base Prime is slightly over 60km.

But if you get the fully loaded model with 19" wheels that drops to 52km...about 7 more than my current Prime.

The launch I attended was for the Prime and the Lexus RZ. Also there for intros: BZ4X, RX 500h, Corolla Cross Hybrid and GR Corolla. Toyota execs confirmed the regular Prius for the Canadian market will only be offered with awd. The non-plug-in wasn't shown at the event.

I get to go to the drive-to events, no the flyovers (not yet, at least!) Actually, I walked to this one - my WFW office is near.

The "BZ4X" approach to IP design gives me pause - I'll have to drive one to make up my mind. Odd to have to look at your display ABOVE the steering wheel. The car itself looks really hot, with lots of sculpting and detailing.

I asked Jeff if this was an issue at all and he said "nope".

I've heard others say it's like looking at a heads up display.

It's like an 8th gen civic 2 tier dash. I found speedo gets in the way.

Probably just something people decide to complain about.

Don't recall much griping about it in the reviews.

From owning a 9th gen civic (the same setup as the 8th) for  over 10 years the speedo does not get in the way. ::) It's a non issue. The steering wheel also adjusts. I don't know what he is talking about.

Me either.

The CSX is the same way....somehow not an issue for our new driver.
