2023 Mitsubishi RVR aka Renault Capture
« on: September 22, 2022, 09:00:08 am »
Quebec buyers are going to freak out - Renault is back! Yes, we've been having Renault platforms for years through Nissan, but not direct Renault products. The closest to that was the Sentra generation introduced in 2007, whose central body section was lifted straight off the Megane sedan.

The fossil-like RVR is getting booted out and replaced by a rebadged Renault Capture. Powertrain details to follow later. No official news from Mitsu Canada yet.

On the one hand, a way to get a previously unavailable European market vehicle, on the other, is Renault up to North American reliability expectations?

Wonder if Mitsubishi is going to survive. The Outlander being basically a Nissan, and now the RVR being actually a Renault....are we talking last days of AMC here?

Ah, yes, the good old days of the Alliance. Renault seats and components in Cherokees, Americanized R9's with chrome luggage racks.

They are back in the green but, yeah, image-wise, if you only sell rebranded products... Mitsubishi was an EV pionneer and today they have zero plug-ins on offer. The soon-to-be-released Outlander PHEV will correct that, and I'm eager to find out where the drivetrain engineering came from. Nissans are very much Renaults at this point, and many Nissan Canada staffers are straight from France. The Jatco CVT's are from Japan, and are the brand's weakest point, go figure.

Renault, in my experience is rubbish. They didn't do much, just seem like the went to the factory and put some stickers on it, from staples or something.

It looks awesome! Do you know where they will be assembled?
Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach the man to fish and he wakes you up at 5 in the morning.

Spain, on the same assembly line as the Capture of course.

That looks pretty good. I find the new outlander to be a very nice vehicle overall as well. Now they need to fix the Mirage.

Nice!

I guess if Nissans are actually Renaults with a crappy Nissan transmission, bring on the real thing! it's not like the 'real' Mitsubishis have been prize pigs

Perhaps such a car will be popular (When Mitsubishi abandoned the production of a sedan, I expected that there would be new versions of the Pajero with great off-road performance. But if such cars are popular, then the company is probably doing everything right.

It's very appealing, I guess, if you don't mind fingers crossed driving.
