THX.  The hybrid looks like a great deal.  I like the appearance.  I'd take the badges off.  :D

The US market has 6 trims levels:
1.5 turbo 2 trims
LX
EX

Hybrid 4 trims
Sport
EX-L
Sport-L
Touring

Honda Canada's website offers just 3 trims:

1.5 turbo - EX
Hybrid - Sport
Hybrid - Touring

The problem is that the Sport and Hybrid come with 19 inch wheels and tires which hit fuel economy, the sweet spot IMO is the Hybrid EX-L offered in the US but not in Canada that comes with leather but the smaller 17 inch wheels and tires.

Also, the starting price in Canada is $37,000 + freight, PDI and taxes for the cheapest trim.

Supposedly 40,000 is the average car spend these days. I can see why they starting with that high price. Wow.

Wasn't THAT long ago that the Accord topped out at the price point where it now starts.  :o

They've turned it into the Avalon for some reason

That being said, lack of supply may have something to do it, was surprised how much the Civic sales have dropped too

2011   3,653
2012   64,962
2013   64,063
2014   66,057
2015   58,678
2016   64,552
2017   69,030
2018   69,005
2019   60,139
2020   50,805
2021   43,556
2022   15,331

And nothing good about CRV either:

2011   2,742
2012   33,439
2013   34,481
2014   37,684
2015   35,331
2016   44,789
2017   50,443
2018   54,879
2019   55,859
2020   50,135
2021   50,935
2022   17,509

2011: Tsunami year for Honda. Wiped out the chip supply. It looks like now they are selling half the vehicles and making twice the $$.  Of course no one forces people to buy new, just drive what you have and voila; Cuba!

While shortages in supply can benefit certain businesses, the downside is that used cars will continue to become more expensive in the future, just as they are now. Currently, people are paying exorbitant prices for used cars, I have even seen a 2007 Civic with 224,000 miles selling for over $8,000 this week. If this trend continues, it is uncertain what the future holds for the affordability of used cars in North America, which used to be known for offering affordable new vehicles.

Was that the actual selling price or just the asking price. Big difference.

You can change the word uncertain to certain. Core inflation is purposely misleading by any government because it excludes energy, food and rent.  Currently food is 15%.  I dunno the current rate of rent, but given that there is nil supply, 500K legal immigrants plus 50K illegals, one can assume an easy 10%.  Just think of that. :-X.  Carbon tax increases by 35% in a few months together with a very likely that the world is entering another super cycle in oil price.

So having said all that $8K for a beater 2008 Civic will soon seem like a bargain.  People who have not lived thru high inflationary times can't reconcile how high, how quickly, and how long inflation can last.

People who are thinking of a vehicle might be better served by moving sooner than later.  By the end of 2023 logic chips that are used in vehicles will decrease significantly.  50% of the world's supply on neon has been destroyed by the Russian/Ukraine war.  Ukraine supplies 90% of U.S. semiconductor-grade neon.

And probably kms. So it's technically a low mileage Civic. :P

One factor which has not received adequate news coverage is that in the early stage of the pandemic, a lot of people went out and bought up the existing inventory of used cars because nobody wanted to take public transport. And then the normal production rates of new cars was severely disrupted with chip and other supply issues, so it was a double whammy; increased demand for used cars and shortage of new cars.
