Great colour. My neighbor accross the street has one in the same colour. As far as recalls go a plastic engine cover is not so bad.

Nice R!. You will be the exception to the typically R owner rolling around here who seems to have a chip on their shoulder showing/telling you at every opportunity that the R is as good or better than it's more expensive German counterparts... ;)
I thought that only US R owners were like that.

After these few days I am pretty sure that it is not a high end car, it is an awd Golf GTI which was always just a fast economy hatch but a  dry refined one!
It surprises me the things it doesn’t have. Power folding mirrors, a gas hood strut, a spare wheel( I do see the problems there, but it could have had run-flats as an option), a separate quick start manual for the infotainment Even as options I would have taken all but the run flats and might have taken those.

For all that whining, it is truly great to drive…for people like me who like the DSG and prefer small turbo engines to bigger NA engines.

Beautiful colour!  Congrats!
I would MUCH RATHER have it in Tornado Red.    But it is a nice blue.
Mrs Tpl had 2 Fits in that colour. But I have had too many white cars and I will not have a black car

Apart from the unavailable Red. I would have Pomelo Yellow which I think is available on GTIs.

It's downright criminal that VW discontinued Tornado Red on the GTI and R.

Congrats on the new car, it looks great even in that blue!

I seem to recall that VW did that with the R the first run in 2015 / 2016 and then by 2019 (?) you could get over 50 colors for a cost.

The MK7 interior was much better from a quality perspective and it definitely felt like an Audi in there.  Too bad VW messed with a good thing.  On the other hand, the performance is astounding out of the box.  No question that one should get an R over a loaded GTI as the pricing is so darn close.  But I have been looking at the base GTI which has a ton of goodness (including the LSD that I love).  Low 30's for a manual with cloth seats.  Actually, very random thoughts, but it would be great to be able to get a base R for $40K.

Yeah, post dieselgate VW started some cost cutting.  The Mk7.5 had a few things deleted from the Mk7.  Felt liners in cubbies, under hood insulation, gas strut for the hood, all little things for sure but they do add up.

And I agree the Mk7 interior is great.  It's so easy to use and IMO looks upscale for a compact.

Also, great car TPL!  The sutble tweaks they made the exterior give it a much more imposing presence than the pedestrian versions.

Congrats TPL! I like the color too (this is what I would get too).
Happy motoring!

GTIs and Rs are nice little daily drivers with some utility too. Fast when you asked them to be, tame and quite fuel efficient whenever you want too. I like the balance they achieved with these cars.
