I'll take scuffed alloys over new steelies.

But I usually buy used OEM alloys for the same price as new steel wheels.

Alloys all the way. I can't stand the looking at steelies for half the life of my car. At the very minimum use hubcaps.

The SI looks great Johnny! I also bought a windshield cover from Costco for the BMW since it will be living outside from now on.  :'(

As I discovered when buying steelies for my wife's Fit - those things aren't cheap!  Maybe there used to be an enormous price gap back in the day when hubcaps were common and alloy wheels were something fairly exotic.  But it's not a huge step up from steelies to lower price bracket alloys these days.

In any case - black totally works with orange - just ask Halloween.  ;D  Hubcaps are a big nope for me - it's like your car is wearing a toupee.  :-X  Car looks great.

Fresh steelies look fine, I just hate when people let them get all rusty and crappy looking....What's it take to hit them with the old cheek poker and some Tremclad when they get rusty.

Agreed.  But then I don't understand people who don't take care of their cars, regardless.  A guy in a BMW 5 series (black, naturally) parks behind me at the GO station - he's had the same 5 massive blobs of birdsh!t on his hood for a week.  ???  Seriously, I have to restrain myself from leaving a note on his windshield.  :banghead:

I've actually been doing something to help avoid rust by spraying the rim with a thick coat of the green bottle of Rust Check.  Then in the spring I'll clean it all off and hit it with a fresh coat of cheap black spray paint.  Seems to avoid the worst of it.

I would likely go with used Honda alloys but I typically get winter tires and rims included with our vehicle purchases so it almost always ends up being steelies.  The one exception would be the Golf R and GLI which you can't even find steelies to fit over the brakes.  So in that case I spent $1,500 on a set of VW alloys and winter tires, hence why I felt more invested in them.

I run silver steelies on the Frontier.  They look ok but they're a stupid design with a ridge behind the spoke area where water pools and has to be chipped out when it freezes or it'll cause an imbalance.  Happens often enough that I have to carry around a old flathead screwdriver to clean it out.  Not my first set of steelies but first time I remember this happening and it's annoying.

Yes , mine are the same water trapping design but are black .

And this morning is exactly why I prefer steel rims instead of alloys for winter tires.  Temperature was 1 degree, but was rainy and windy all night.  Was doing my normal morning commute, a turn that in the summer I take at between 40-45 km/hr, I was taking at 35-40 km/hr, hit some black ice and slide into a curb.  Was likely only doing about 20-25 km/hr, so low speed.  Scraped some steel and paint off the rim, no other damage.  Spray it with some cheap black paint, good as new.  Had that been alloy wheels I would have been a lot more annoyed.

You should probably take your car in for an alignment...  you never know.

I'll be paying close attention to it for sure, but an alignment might not be needed.

Crappy. I left for work fairly late this morning and the roads weren't icy at all but I was surprised to see a ton of salt had been spread around the Waterloo Row/Forest Hill/Beaverbrook intersection.

Meh, life goes on.  Just wish that maybe the city would have salted the roads a bit earlier before there were a lot of reports about black ice this morning on people's commute.

If your city is anything like most other cites, between cutbacks, reduced staff, sick staff, etc, things just won't be happening as much or as fast as they used to.

OH Snap!   That was my first thought, but I was too polite to mention it, lol.  Plus I don't want Karma to come bite me in the ass on my drive home today.

Yeah, I was going to say that in 23 winters of driving on alloys, I’ve never curbed a rim.

But now I’ve said it. Look for my post in a couple hours showing the rim I just wrecked on my drive home today.   :-X  :rofl2:

Ha, I guess if that’s the worst “accident” I will ever have I will call myself lucky.  Also, at no point have I ever “bragged” about my driving skills.  I also know you are just giving me a hard time.  Hey, at least I’m not afraid to admit and post my mistakes.

I’ve hit a few curbs in my day. Luckily, just with SUVs running giant tires and tiny rims.

All were running steelies, but still, huge sidewalls FTW!  ;D
