2019 Mazda CX-5
« on: April 11, 2022, 07:55:37 pm »
Well, the one-family-car pied piper called, and owning a manual transmission when my wife doesn't drive stick is a no-go.  My biggest hitch was losing money on the Mazda 3 a mere eight months after buying it.  I had trade offers anywhere from $8900 to $12500 on it.  Anyway, the dealer who sold it to us, (the same one who bought the Tundra) agreed to give us what we paid for the car - $15 991.  The replacement is this:

2019 Mazda CX-5 GS with Convenience Package.  36 000kms.

We pick it up on the weekend sometime.  I'm gonna miss the little 3, but this will be a far superior family vehicle.  I'd been looking for one for a few weeks, but hadn't gotten far enough to make a deal.  Checked my favorite dealer's website this morning, and lo-and-begold, they had two to choose from.

Sweet. Those drive really nice.

Is it  AWD with the 2.5?

Yes, AWD with 2.5NA.  leatherette seats, dual zone automatic climate control, sunroof, Adaptive Cruise, Lane Departure Alert, Blind Spot monitoring., Power liftgate. No NAV on this one, but it has Android Auto/Carplay, so I don't care.

I knew it was coming, that wife not driving a stick situation wasn't going to fly long. This, IMO is a much better option, the CX-5 is a competent family unit and isn't totally boring to drive either.

Great choice. Fuel consumption shouldn't be a whole lot worse than the 3.

Nice find!  I think the CX-5 would be my first choice in this class. It's also great you got your money back for the 3.

Congrats on the new Mazda.  It's strange that other dealers weren't willing to give you the same amount or more than you paid 8 months ago.  You'd think that a fuel sipping sedan would be in high demand.  Sometimes the market is weird, but regardless you found the vehicle to make your life a little easier (happy wife and all that) and didn't lose anything on the 3.

It was also the price of the vehicle.  For the price, other dealers were listing CX-5's that were a few years older (2017-2018) with 60 000 - 80 000 kms.  The Car Store has ALWAYS been consistently cheaper than other dealers, usually by a few grand for the same vehicle.  So, the price differential between the Mazda3 and the CX-5 was closer than anywhere else.  Luckily, they also had one in the trim level we wanted.  Soul Red would have been our first choice for colour, but like the Tundra, we'll take what we can get, and White is what we can get.

Whites my wife's favorite color on any vehicle, so I don't think it's the worst option.  If you wanted the navigation I'm pretty sure you can either get it put on at the dealer for a small fee or maybe even buy it and install it from a secondary source.

I assume Android Auto/Apple Carplay is the best route, so no need for factory navigation.

I'm almost tempted to take the little NAV SD card that is in the Mazda3 and put it in the CX-5 - it should work, as it's the same OS.  But yeah, Android Auto and Google Maps is a superior system.  I'll often use Google Maps on my phone even in the Mazda, just because it does traffic.
