Unexpected New Vehicle
« on: March 17, 2022, 05:50:41 pm »
So my wife was in an accident a couple of weeks ago in which she was not injured. The Sportage didn't fare as well, it was t-boned and all the side airbags went off. The shop was up to $29K in repairs and no idea when they could get parts. The Sportage was 6 months old and just over 5,000KM's.

It was deemed a write off. Thank god for replacement value insurance and accident forgiveness. She did nothing wrong, but due to the fact she was turning left she was deemed at fault.

So not  many new cars available, she didn't like the CX30 that our local dealer had . My local Honda dealer that I have bought a few from had a CRV Touring and a HRV Touring that just arrived. She liked both but felt the size of the HRV suited her better, we picked it up today

Congrats on the new wheels. Thank god they didn't attempt a repair on the Kia, couldn't imagine how many people would run away a lot when they saw a $30k repair on a car
Lighten up Francis.....

Congrats on the new ride!

Seems like you might have a spare set of OEM kia rims  ;)

Glad your wife is okay and that it was written off.  Too bad the accident forgiveness had to be used.

Was she disappointed that she couldn’t get another Sportage, or was she happy to try something new?

I think the HR-V is a great vehicle and likely will be more reliable than a turbo’d CR-V.

Yes I do, 18" Kia originals with all season  tires about 2,000 kms on them, they will be up as soon as I get them from storage at my tire guy 😀

She was happy with the Sportage, but there were none available, in her trim level.

Congrats on the new ride and glad the accident only harmed metal.  The HRV is a massively underrated choice, IMO.  Very solid package.  Happy and safe motoring going forward.

Good to hear your wife is OK, that's the main thing. Sounds like those airbags and safety structures did their job

With custom centre rings you might be able to use those rims for a winter set, if the wheel offset is similar.

I am glad no one was harmed. I have to ask how was she not at fault turning left and having a car T-bone her on the passenger side? Was she clearing the intersection and the oncoming vehicle ran the light?

She fully entered the intersection on a green, with traffic there was no opening to turn, the light then went yellow then red she proceeded to clear the intersection when the guy came through and hit her. She was not charged with anything, but because it was a left turn she was at fault
