Finally drove this the other day, definitely one of the better driving sports sedans I've experienced. A properly fun way to spend the commute.

If you really want to call that a commute...at worst (when I was detouring to drop Mrs.Firm off) mine was 110km/day round trip. Never again though, 10 years was enough of that...

My daily commute for the past 20 years has been 75km round trip.

This is a perfect car for me...comfortable when you need it...and able to hoon when you want it.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I wonder what a launch edition IS500 would fetch right now.  Must be north of $100k.

I’m hoping he just got rid of the Merc R wagon thingy.

Sold the classic Mini - just figured there is too little time to drive everything.

I rather like the stupid R-Class - it's practical for the use I have for it, super nice to drive, and nearly free!

Did a track day with the Launch Edition today. Had a chance to hit a private day with this and the GR86 press car my managing editor was driving. Had a TON of fun - the IS 500 is very obviously a fat pig but carries its weight extremely well. Goes sideways without even trying, and oversteer is extremely controllable. Straight line power is awesome, and met with a glorious symphony.

Had a ton of fun and the stock tires survived! Odometer just hit 3,000km.

Maybe for you  ;) We ask permission each and every time, and nobody has ever said no. We also offer to buy a new set of tires, the content is more than worth it.

It's not just us either - plenty of outlets track press cars.

Guide l'auto does, as do RPM. These two have big media presence, with tv shows etc. When a local celeb crashes a car, it passes. But us freelancers...

I've loosely been thinking about selling the IS 500. As much as I absolutely love it, what I could get for it is effectively what I owe on my home mortgage. There's some redundancy with the LS460 and obviously the IS is worth significantly more on the market.

I'm thinking that I should unload it while I can still get well over MSRP, and drive the snot out of the LS460 as a daily for the next 5-10 years. I'm fortunate to have a few great toys at my disposal, so I feel like this is the right "big boy" decision to make.

Making some calls to figure out what # to sit at.

I don’t think that’s the worst idea.  You have an abundance of very nice vehicles and any time you spend in the IS is time you aren’t driving and enjoying one of those.

So sell the IS and pay for your home.  Good trade off.  If gas goes up to $3 and interest rates keep going up, I think you will see some special vehicles all of a sudden show up on the used market and maybe something else falls into your lap.

Having all the cars you have it would be tough to not sell it and take advantage of this crazy market. I noticed Launch Editions listing for $90-100K on Trader. Yikes. Hope you can rake it in though.

Soooo happy to have closed our final 4 yr term at 1.4% two years ago! Halfway there, soon done  :) Penalties remove the fun of going lump sum payment on a mortgage, depending on what your contract offers.

Penalties should be minimal on the remaining principal, no?  Annual prepayment privileges?

Yes on the second part, and given the market at the moment we may be better off with a prepayment than with a RRSP contribution  ;D First part I dunno but I don't have an IS500 lying around, but what remains in my case is closer to an ES 300h anyway  ;)

I think with our mortgage, if you were to pay off your mortgage with say 4 years remaining, you would be penalized on the amount above your yearly allowance (likely 10-20% of original mortgage amount), the penalty would be 4 months (because there is 4 years remaining) of interest on that amount above the allowance.  So yes there is a penalty, but in some cases it's not that much, especially if you are paying 1.4% rate.
