Average speed?
« on: November 27, 2021, 01:59:41 pm »
So my G450X has an odometer and an hour meter, 8140/148 gives an average of 55kph.

Anybody else have something to compare it to?

5,177 km…

Divided by 220.2 hours…

Equals… 23.5 km/h. :-[ :rofl2:

Nah - I average 24kph on my bicycle.  :rofl2:

But seriously, I have no idea what an expected average speed for off road motorcycle riding might be.
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

Depends mostly on terrain.

Rides like this can raise your average: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EBn6cEWMXc&t=22s&ab_channel=blur911

Rides like this...not so much:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBGtMUdym3c&ab_channel=blur911

It really depends on the terrain. 24 km/h average through the singletrack around here would probably have me on a podium.  ;D

But I also go down to Moab where I get to wind it out in sixth gear through the desert. That bumps up the average considerably.

This was from a ride in the fall. 9.6 km/h average, but pretty much all singletrack. Had a couple of stops for snacks and chit chat though, with the timer still running, so moving average would be a little bit higher. And the odometer on my bike read a bit over 40 km, instead of the 36 km on the GPS, so that was screwy too.

Yup KTM odos always read high. Can be exacerbated by running a different front tire  than stock and low air pressure.

I looked at the other data from the GPS for that ride: average moving speed was 12.4 km/h and max speed was 53 km/h.

And, for fun, here's one from the mountain bike:

Average moving speed was 7.7 km/h and top speed was 28.6 km/h.

And a road ride for the heck of it. Only had a few of these this year.  :(

Max speed was 81.5 km/h, but average moving speed was still only 20.3 km/h.  :-[

The twistier the route, the more GPS can short change you on distance as it only take a data point every X seconds. This is why people on mtn bikes that want a more accurate distance count put on the Garmin Speed sensor.

^^ Yeah, I guess I’m not concerned enough to bother. I rode without the GPS for years until I found it in a drawer last summer and started riding with it again. It’s a Garmin Edge 500 from maybe 2010? Amazing that it still works at all.  :rofl2:

I do have the wheel speed sensor as well. Think it’s on my road bike though. Would make more sense to put it on the mtb, but I guess I just didn’t want the extra doodads with mud and rocks and branches and stuff.

My wife has a newer Garmin fitness tracker thing that she wears on her wrist. It consistently reads 10% higher for mileage than my 500.
