It's the Big Boy of big boys, optioned up to 96k$ and powered by the frugal but gruffy Duramax 3 litre straight-six:

Sun spotting in the pics... First I thought this was a rookie mistake, then I noticed Car and Driver does it all the time, so I now consider it "artsy"  ;D

Break out the wide angle lens to photograph a dashboard

Actually, had to lower the seatbacks and move back more than usual. Much nicer IP than in the Silverado:

144.7 cubic feet in there... An Odyssey offers 158 and fits in a standard garage. But the 'Burban is apocalypse-proof and tows a bit more than twice as much. Still, not impressed with a max 7,800 lbs for something this size.

I'd rather tow a travel trailer with one of these than a pickup.

Good looking vehicle.

What's the observed mileage?

I had a Yukon Denali (Short Wheel Base) version of this last week, with the 3.0L Duramax. I finished the week with 10.3L/100km showing...about half of my driving that week was highway and the rest city. Pretty good, especially since I average ~14.5L/100km in the 6.2L version.

I couldn't do the diesel though, the big V8 is part of the charm of these things....sure the fuel savings are nice, and the power is more than adequate in the diesel, but the 6.2L is really nice and responsive, and has the proper V8 sound you expect from one of these beasts. Gimme the V8.

And the diesel sounds like a total disposable POS, design wise. Yeah, V8 exhaling through Magnaflows FTW

I ended the week at an even 12,0 l/100 km, much better than the observed 17.2 I got with the Tahoe (5.3) or the 17.3 from the Escalade (6.2). First drive home (urban highway) netted 9.2.

March 2020 I had a Silverado with that engine and added a longer rural highway trip but only got a score in the 11's.

The Tahoe was the best-driving of the bunch, thanks to the Z71 suspension pkg (air suspension, Magnaride shocks and 20" tires with big sidewalls). The 22's on the 'Burban lacked sidewall, creating loud and well-perceived vibrations on road irregularities.

Both my son and I drive the crap out of his 2020 F150 2.7TT Screw with 3.73 gears and the fuel indicator doesn't budge from 12.3 l/100km.  It's like it's stuck.  However, the wife's MDX seems to be stuck at 10.3 l/100km  Regardless, that truck is fast.  It has no exhaust or engine noise whatsoever so often you look down and find yourself going 130 in an 80.  I think it's faster than the Armada but the Armada definitely gives you the sensation that's it's fast due to the exhaust note.

Consequently, any irrational thoughts about getting a diesel are gone.  Just not worth the hassle of the stinky fuel, the smelly hand even with a glove, the inevitable failure of the emission controls, the DEF, and the slowness of them.

The 2.7 and 5.5 TTs are interesting engines. I still regard them as lease engines though. We will see if they can stack up serious mileage.

No they're not. Same line-up we get down there.

There was a made-to-order, fleet-only Suburban 3500 made available from 2015 to 2019 but it ceased to exist with the current generation. Consumer-grade HD 'Burbans bowed out in 2014.

Minor delay magnified by covid. All those shadowy US Govt organizations will want their armoured  Burbans back.

That was a weird one. They called it a 3500, but it in some ways (only 3,000 lb tow rating) it was actually less capable than the previous 2500.

They really were designed as a fleet-only vehicle: cop cars, gov’t limos, etc. They did have a huge payload rating, but not so you could fill the back full of rocks, but so outfitters could load it up with armour and bulletproof glass.

My next review to go live is for a bulletproof car, but not in that sense  ;D

https://tuningpro.co/the-4-most-common-ford-2-7-ecoboost-engine-problems/

2018 and up 2.7s are quite different.  the 3.5s had serious front cam issues that has been redesigned plus a host of other changes.  As with most D3 products and to a lesser degree the Asian units, the customer is the Test Pilot.

If one is looking at a 2017 and older 2.7 or 3.5, don't.
