we got a bit of a squall come through London today...no issues to report on my ride in, but there wasn't much on the ground so it may not have been much of a "test" for them yet...will continue to report when we get a more reasonable amount of snow on the ground.

had about 4-5 inches of snow on the ground this morning...a little slushy underneath...no issues whatsoever with the new tires...i wasn't hooning around in it (just driving normal, a bit cautious since i'm not sure how good these tires are), but they seem great...grip from a stop was solid...braking was decent...normal speed around the corner was noneventful...as i get a bit more comfortable with them, i'll push it a little harder to see where the limits are, but so far, very impressed with them.

Got some free used Blizzaks and steelies along with the Armada.  Tires just not that great.  Wee bit of sliding around so purchased 4 Hankook Winter I Pike 265/70/18.  All that was available in that size.

20 years ago Hankook copied the original Gaslavid design.  I had the original Gaslavids on a 1998 Volvo S70.  Thought they were the greatest.  I'll soon find out.

I had the Gislavids on my V70 & they were great! I'm digging the BF Goodrich  Winter T/A KSi's on the Passport the past few winters. Similar tread design.

That tread looks great and deep.  I think the Blizzack/Michelin story might be just a little too over done.

Who knows with the I-Pikes  ???  Suppose it comes done to wear.  Can I get a solid 4 winters out of them is the question?

Depends where you get the info.

Tirerack (and some others) do timed tests around tracks in dry, wet and snow/ice with tires.

Pretty easy to see which ones are "better".
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Well I'm driving a 6000 lb. tank in a straight line at 100 km/h in a 80km/h zone with some 130 km/h single lane passing.  Just looking to stay on the roadway.  :)

Paid $911. plus HST.

I have them on the Frontier.  They are decent on snow but terrible on ice.  They wear incredibly well though.  My friend has them on his Taco and they've been on there since he bought the vehicle 3 years ago.  Runs them through all season.

There was a reason they were studabble. Huge resurgence of studded tires here in AB. Started by the Audi DBs cruising around 12 months per year on them..

Those winter I-Pikes seem to have a few different tread designs.  I thought I was getting one tread and ended up with one I hadn't seen before on line.   Local governments and the province apply hordes of salt up in these parts due to the fact the salt comes in by freighter to Owen Sound.  Lots of slush.  I was riding on top of that slush rather than thru it with the worn blizzacks.

Wow. This thread turned out a few 32nd longer than I thought it would  :D

Just went and measured my Arctic 12 winters with an electronic thingy. It shows between 8.3 and 8.6 mm, which is I think is between 10 and 11 / 32nd, not bad for around 20k on them. Still have a feeling I should have gone 235mm for a slightly bigger diameter, but that would result in XL rating and firmer ride.

So what are you buying and where are you using them?  One of the ultra negatives living in Canada is snow tires.  Ya, I still call them "snows".  I still call boys, boys and girls, girls.  Sorry, it's just me.  :)

Currently, i have very decent tread on all 3 sets of snows so disposing of them this upcoming season is mentally distressing.   I dunno, I'm mostly on the fence regarding this winter.  But moving forward, I'm going all in studs regardless of the southern Ontario "regulations".  Roads department, of all levels of government, throw so much salt in my region that ice is now the issue and none studded tires are useless on ice.   Michelin nailed me once on their "X-ICE" BS.  Probably will still stick with Michelin and their "snow tire with studs".   Let others more compliant with "regulations" slide off the roadway, risk a HTA charge and for certain a nasty increase in an insurance rate.  :P
