My shop stores tires for customers, all barcoded in the basement. We charge $99/season for the storage. MANY customers take us up on the service, makes swapping out tire sets a breeze. I store mine here too, we use cardboard and foam in between the rims when asked, and hardware is always kept with the rims (locks, aftermarket lugs, etc.). Such services are worth it in convenience for many.

Basically pure profit for the dealer and convenient for the customer. Win-win.

not really pure profit...the tires have to be stored somewhere.

most shops likely use an off site storage service.

I guess I'm the only one that doesn't mind doing this  ;D

In addition to swapping the tires on our vehicles. I also do it for some family and friends. They bring everything over, I do the swap and they store themselves. This past spring, I did 8 vehicles over a weekend, lol.

Ha ha no doubt.  Currently I have my tire racks mounted high in the garage so I at 6'2" can walk under them. I devised a pulley system that I have not used to get tires up and down (work smarter not harder) but typically I use the bed of my truck as a platform and lift them into the racks. A 20" Land Rover wheel/tire is a good clean and jerk..

Lol, I'm 43 so not that young but I play sports and lift weights regularly (before pandemic hit anyway). My nearly 73 yr old dad is fairly active too. Still plays basketball regularly with/against guys around half to a third his age, lol.

My cousin's wheel/tire on his FJ cruiser weigh a ton. At least I don't have to put it up on my storage rack, only help unload/load from his truck. Pain in the ass to line up to the wheel studs though. The 20" wheel/tire on our MDX will for sure be tougher to lift up to the storage rack than the Mazda5's  :rofl2:

This has nothing to do with age. Some people are just stronger and love doing this. While others can't be bothered, have no space, or any interest in lifting/moving tires around.

Nothing wrong with either. Do what makes you happy.

Yes, I know people have different strength and fitness levels. Just don't use age as an excuse  ;)

I wasn't using age as an excuse... I'm 70 play hockey 3 times a week and go to the gym 3 times a week... as you get older fun things  like changing tires, cutting grass are not that interesting anymore and you have more disposable income to hire people to do it for you, while you do other more fun things 😉

That's impressive in itself.

I would have used age as an excuse  ;D
