I completely understand where you two are coming from. If you never leave built up areas and have cell service then help is within reach.  I find that by doing all my work myself I educate myself on how things work and I then understand issues if they crop up at the roadside. It also doesn't hurt to have rudimentary skills like fixing flats, carb floats (or cleaning out fuel blockages on FI bikes), cleaning jets, and a general understanding of the bikes wiring because  when adventure riding as it can be a long long walk home.
You don't need to clean your carb if you hold it in the redline.. ;D

Even better if you have a buddy with a truck within cell service.  ;D

I'll do some DIY but I want to ride my motorcycle not endlessly work on it. Reliability is #1. It'd be nice to go to a shaft drive bike at some point to save on having to replace the chain every 20-25k. Just have to deal with tires every 10-20k.

I agree if you are piling on the miles a shaft drive would be nice. Considering most riders put a few thousand kms each year most tires rot before wear and chains? Most are lifetime.

Bits and bobs update:

1) Tail tidy.
2) Fly screen.
3) Swingarm spools.
4) Kickstand pad.

5) Rear seat cowl (backordered - parts are in bloody short supply, in case y'all didn't know).

As you'd expect, the bike is WAY faster now.  Mostly down to the kickstand pad, obviously.

Nice!

Why the kick stand pad, you're not off-roading?

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

Just like on my bicycle, I tend to pull over a lot to take pretty pictures.  ;D  Off roading is not part of my reality, but soft shoulders sometimes are.

Asphalt gets soft in the sun in Ontario too, I imagine. I had my kickstand go deep enough on an asphalt shoulder the bike flipped upside down into the ditch

^^ this...in my riding days, i usually had a little kickstand pad to prevent that...when i didn't have one, i'd look around for a flattened pop can and slide that under the kickstand...fresh asphalt in the hot summer sun often doesn't like holding up a 500 lb bike sometimes.

I had a small piece of plywood under my seat that I'd put under the kickstand when the bike was parked at work for the day in the hot sun & asphalt.

Bike looks great Roger!! Nice tasteful mods

That would be completely unacceptable behaviour in Oakville.   :rofl2:
