GBA's 2016 Mazda3 GS Sky 'not-a-beater'
« on: August 07, 2021, 04:46:47 pm »
Well,  here is the replacement for the Civic.

A 2016 Mazda3 GS Sky hatch with 66k kms.  The car was listed for $15 900, and the only haggling I did was to get them to throw in a set of new Blizzak WS90's on steelies.

Oh, yeah, and it's a manual.

I'm chuffed.  A Mazda3 has been a bucket list item for me ever since they came out with the 2004 generation.  Compared to the Civic, it's SO much more vehicle, four years newer, with less than half the kms.  For $5k more.  It's not that the 2012 Civic wasn't nice - it was perfectly fine - it's just that the Mazda3 is SO much nicer.  It drives better, has more power (and is more fuel efficient), looks nicer, and has a better interior.

My RV savings have been depleted, though.  Ah well, this wasn't the time to buy an RV anyway.  Prices are waay inflated.  In the couple of years it takes for them to come down again, I'll have money saved up.

Beauty! Congrats. A bit more versatility with the hatch as well.

Manual!?  I thought your wife veto'd that option.  That's a fun little hatch back that will serve you well.  Congrats bud.

She did, in theory.  We sat in and test drove the Honda, then sat in and drove the Mazda, and she agreed to the stick.  I drive the car 95% of he time.  For the times she needs to drive, we have the truck which she likes driving.  She has also indicated she wouldn't mind getting comfortable with the stick (she knows the basics, just needs practice).

Nice!  I've always liked the looks of the Mazda 3. I had one as a rental one time and was really impressed.  Great Little Car!  ;D

Fun fact:. We drove the truck to the dealer to buy the car.  When the deal was done and we were heading home, I was in the Mazda and my wife drove the Tundra home ahead of me.  As she pulled out of the parking lot, she put the hammer down, just so I could hear how the big V8 sounds at WOT through the open windows of the Mazda.  My wife is great! 😀

Nice! Definteily a step up. Those 3s are a real nice size and feel quite premium. Score on the stick shift.

I think you'll like it . A more sporty car than the civic for sure. My sister has a soul red sedan GS with the sunroof. More features too.

Nice car! These are excellent not-give-a-darn daily drivers, I've driven plenty of them.

I didn't realize they're still worth that much though - I'm going to be tasked with selling my SIL's 2015 automatic in the exact same colour as yours later this year. I assumed it was a $5-7k car (50,000km or so), though I'll admit I haven't even bothered to do an ounce of research just yet.

Nice purchase GBA!! I think these have a more sporty & luxurious feel compared to the Civic for sure. Bella had two different Mazda 3's over the years & there's 2 on our driveway right now that the kids own, so maybe I'm a bit biased, lol!!

Nice choice, these drive really well, and the stickshift is pretty great.

Sweet car, GBA.  There's a reason it's on Car and Driver's 10Best for 2016 (and other years).
