Very nice!  Congrats, and Zoom Zoom Zoom!

It really drives great.  I've always liked Mazda's and the way they drive, and this one is no exception.  Compared to the 2012 Honda Civic, it's got a much nicer interior, is a lot quieter, and drives a lot nicer.  When we were driving the 2012 Civic, my wife commented that it felt almost identical to our old 2008 Civic.  The Mazda was an obvious upgrade, and was part of what swayed her to the manual.

We also brought my daughter along (like me, she loved the car-buying process, btw), and even though she's only eight, my wife counted her vote as well, which was for the Mazda.  I had already made up MY mind, but I was willing to take all the help in convincing Mrs GBA.

Couple of weird things about the car:  It has a smart key with push button start, but no way to unlock the doors without taking the key out of your pocket and pressing the unlock button on the fob.  Weird.

The infotainment will take some getting used to.  It's a touch-screen, but can't be used as a touchscreen while the car is in motion.  You're forced to use the little BMW i-drive like knob behind the shifter, which I actually find to be MORE distracting.  The radio controls are kinda buried, too.  YOu need to flip through some menus just to change from one station preset to another.  I haven't discovered if you can achieve this by simple steering wheel controls yet.

The instrument cluster is cool.  It's got a physical speedometer front and center, with two monochromatic LCD screens flanking it.  The one on the left shows a little tachometer, along with a shift indicator tuned for fuel economy.  The one on the right is a multi-information display that shows fuel economy and trip data.  I haven't found an engine temp gauge yet, which I find to be an odd omission.  Maybe it's buried in a menu somewhere.

No matter, though.  Of all the sensible compact cars, THIS one is the driver's car.

Enjoy your new wheels. Sometime I miss the manual tranny but my (former now with wfh ?) hour commuting heavy traffic killed my enthusiasm before Volt to keep a stick.

You won't find one ,I believe it has a blue light when engine cold.

The cruise has the feature that it lists the speed you set it at.

Well,  here is the replacement for the Civic.

A 2016 Mazda3 GS Sky hatch with 66k kms.

Congrats GBA, a great choice. I'm still a big fan of Mazda and these cars. Enjoy!

Nice car. I prefer the design / looks of this model over current design.

The infotainment is a little odd. When connected to the phone the screen will also let you know that you received a text message on your phone. It then offered bring it up on the screen for viewing. If you select yes it then denies you because the car is in motion.  :rofl2:

I have an Ultra Gauge for that but it uses dumb lights otherwise. The blue light turns off at 130F. I’m not sure what the red light turns on at but I’ve seen my temperature reach 220F climbing up a killer I-5 hill in California and the red light didn’t come on.

Congrats on the new commuter GBA.  My nephew got a soul red sedan manual earlier this year.  Test drove a number of cars (my bro liked the Subie - AWD and it was in winter) but the Mazda won out.

Congrats! Sounds like a good buy.

I think you'll get used to the controller quickly. When I had my Mini Clubman it was one of the first Minis with a touchscreen and I literally never used it - the iDrive controller was way better IMO.

Yeah, the half-a$$ed smart key is an annoyance every time I have to jump into one of these. Infotainment is a weak point too, for exactly the reason you mentioned.

Interesting....

The infotainment on the Mazda is Linux based.  Apparently, it's possible to install Android Auto using a USB stick.

Currently researching....

They offered an upgrade for $500 or so to make it Carplay and Auto compatible. It would be great for you to circumvent the $500 fee.

So there's no button on the door handle to unlock the door? Kind of dumb...

No.  I've got a friend with a more recent CX-3 (2020 or so), and hers is the same way.  I think the door button (to lock/unlock) may have only been offered on higher trim levels.

I wonder if that model also has the navigation prewired so all you need is the memory card to add it.  I know that's been that way for a little while but not sure which year they started it.

May want to research what the price is to replace the infotainment system if you brick it. Could be expensive

My car does already have Nav.

I'll be sure to do a ton of research first, to make sure I have the right version installed in my car, and also potential failure rates.

Then again, maybe I decide not to.  I dunno.  Android Auto seems easier to use than the factory GUI.

Or go the official route. It's worth asking the dealer the cost of doing this.

mazdaparts.org is also selling the upgrade kit for $148 US. Just make sure the firmware is updated which should be easy. EDIT: No Canadian shipping.

Good choice of a replacement car. It looks really clean on the photos that you have provided.
