My Sister's New Ride
« on: August 06, 2021, 09:42:45 am »
The time had come to say goodbye to her 2011 Santa Fe.  It had served her so well that it was hard to get her to look at brands other than Hyundai, but due dilligence compelled me to compel her to do so.  Current Santa Fe - 'too big'. Honda CR-V - 'screams old man or soccer mom'.  Mazda CX-5 - 'love the looks inside and out but a little small inside'.  Toyota RAV 4 - 'don't like it'.

She settled on the 2022 Hyundai Tucson in Preffered / AWD trim.  She's had it for a week now and is loving it.  Her 6ft tall (and growing) teenage son gives two big thumbs up for rear seat legroom and headroom - and he loves the reclining rear seats.  She just took it on a 400km return trip and loved every minute of it - 'smooth, stable, comfortable'.

If this one serves her even nearly as well as the last, she will be well pleased indeed.
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

Congrats to her! Nice car. Are they assembling them in Korea or US? What engine?

Nice purchase!  I think these look pretty sharp in person.  My next door neighbour had one at least 2 generations old, and it's crazy how far they've come since then (she replaced it with a Kona recently).

Cheers to hopefully many years of happy driving!

Nice. These have distinctive but good looks. Hard to do in a mid size SUV package. Much better styled than other manufacturers that go with bland or distinctive and ugly.

Don't know where they are assembled, to be honest.  It's the normally aspirated 2.5l motor.

Crazy indeed - it's miles ahead of even the most recent model.

Yup - I think they hit a design sweet spot here.  And I will say the interior LOOKS much more premium than its price point.  Definitely not Lexus levels of material quality, but the ambiance is near-luxury impressive.

Well I think it was nice that she at least tried a few others before settling on something she is comfortable with.  Was her old Santa Fe the V6?  Does she miss the extra power?

Nice proportions on that ride.  Congrats to her.

Cheers.

Yes the old car was a V6 - and funny you should mention that - I asked her how she found the highway merging and passing power on this recent trip and she said it was really strong.  So not missing the V6 power.

My wife had a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe with the V6 for 10.5 years and misses the effortless power it delivered, plus it sounded a lot better in the cabin.

Nice looking car. I wouldn't have guessed Tucson looking at it. They really have stepped up their game in the looks dept.

Congratulations. Nice car. Saw one of these yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the sophistication of the design.

That's the one to go for. With synthetic oil changes (I'd personally change it every 8,000 or so) and 100k transmission fluid changes the car should last for decades.

^^^ to chime in, Hyundai now has a new wet DCT which is supposedly better but I have no personal experience with it. The standard 2.5L engine in this Tucson is paired with a "normal" sealed 8 spd auto. Same with the Santa Fe. And as many mechanics would tell, there is no such thing as "lifetime" ATF unless the car's life is defined by its lease term.

Cheers folks.  "That's a Tucson?" is what she reports as the most common comment from people who have seen the car.  ;D

Great choice.  There was one on the highway behind me a couple weeks back and I really like the DRLs.
