Looks like Gurgie won by 24 seconds.   :winner:
Math wasn't your strong suit was it? ;D
Railton

Yeah, tried to do it in my head while working real quick.

Mine was the more correct answer with the TR package which featured special Michelin TRX tires of a special metric size. :P

Gurgie's answer matches Dent's answer.  So no, you don't win.   :P

Very cool! I can't remember the last time I saw one of these, definitely rare little cars. I definitely prefer the styling over the Escort of that era, especially the front end which is very unique. The rear tail lights are very similar in design to the Camaro of the era.

A predictable post from me.  I liked them and they made good looking race cars.

That's really neat. Certainly a unicorn. Can't believe how many really uncommon 80's cars pop up in Alberta. My nephew just bought a 1988 Turbo Grand Am from a fellow out your way. Hope your boy enjoys it (and doesn't blow it up like all my boys did with turbo vehicles)  ;D

Like father, like son.  Your poor wife - now there's two of you in the house replacing "old junk with old junk!"  :rofl2:

Great rare find - I wonder what he'll get a year from now?
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

Neat!

I had an 87 with the sport package.

I really like those - they look like mini Fox body Mustangs.

2.8L V6 with the 4spd manual. We test drove an Iron Duke one - it was not great.

Iron dukes were dependable aside from one fatal flaw….the timing gear was made of some type of fibre and could/would fail without warning. Have a dead 2.5 in my yard as we speak with that exact problem. Only has 104,000 km on it.

From what I understand they decreased the oil capacity with a small pan for the Fiero for the Iron Duke to make them fit so they were less so in that application.

I recall the early ones were prone to start on fire, they ran pretty hot.

Crongrats to your boy on a terrific off-beat pick!

I liked these as well, they came out in my teenage years. 1 of 1,200? That's Mecum material right there!

Did it come with the TRX wheels, or just the steelies? This one has the "bubble back" upgrade that came from the LN7 - earlier EXP's had a flat rear window. The last ones had a more Escort-ish front end:

2-seaters, like the CRX. That limited sales.

Not a single EXP or LN7 on Trader at the national level... Rare cars!

Did find a cute Escort for $1k in BC: https://www.autohebdo.net/a/ford/escort/surrey/colombie%20britannique/19_11968301_/?showcpo=ShowCpo&ncse=no&orup=1_3_3&sprx=-1
