Are tailgates injuring children all of a sudden  ???

It's an epidemic - there are literally tens of children who get bonked on the head by tailgates ever year, worldwide.

Not letting it happen to me; head injury to an almost 3 year old grandson when I'm on duty.  :o   I opened the F150 gate while holding something and it slipped out of my other hand and it just missed him.  FACK.  Grand kid is with me quit a bit on the build everyday.  He's just about 2 inches higher than the tailgate when it's down.  If you 3 morons good souls ever get a grandson, that you actual spend time with everyday, you'll know why I take over the top precautions.

Nope…you are assuming 4WD auto has not been modernized.

The current system system uses many other inputs, including if your wipers are on or off but really the best part is having the 4WD come on automatic every time the truck stops, so off a slippery surface - very common at lights - you take off in 4WD instead of slipping in 2WD, the going for the 4WD switch and waiting a few seconds for it to kick in, super annoying.

But under rain as well, the 4WD system will turn the front end during driving in many conditions - e.g. it’s raining, wipers are on at position 1, and you attempt to pass somebody, boom 4WD is activated…

It works marvellously, doesn’t bind and doesn’t really affect gas mileage.

That makes sense. It's hard to believe a 4WD system from 1986 is the best they can do for a modern truck.

See the Raptor is set up for 4WD auto, so it must work in demanding conditions

You gotta watch him.  He goes for it.  He likes the brad nailer the best which is the most dangerous.  He'll pick it up and push the tip in with his other hand.  If I put it down even for less than a minute I've got to pull the hose off it.  Real PIA.  :)

It strikes me as a little odd that you let a kid wander around an active construction site, yet the pickup truck tailgate is the danger...

he doesn't want to restrict his grandkid's freedom...that's Marxism.  :P

I am 40 years old, I have yet to hear anything about tailgates being dropped onto kids heads....is this a thing?? Or are you worried about razor blades in Halloween candy as well?? I know lots of friends with trucks and crotch goblins, none have been killed or injured to date. Does the kid find it hard to get around in the bubble?? I'm all for protecting around injury, but this seems like one of those things that just doesn't happen.

Lighten up Francis.....

Injured kids or not, I'd appreciate a damped tailgate on an F-150.

I would as well, but I don't think that tailgates are quite the psycho murderers that ol' AS is making them out to be.

Of course not, but if you nearly watch a kid you would probably change your tune.

It's one thing to bonk one of your own kids with the tailgate but do it to a grandkid and you are in lots of trouble (mom, grandma etc)  ;D. I get it sort of . That being said if the tailgate is a concern then there is no way I would have the little fella on an active construction site. Things happen way too fast and there are too many distractions.

He lives at the construction site.  He walks out the door and he's in it.  I make sure it's very clean.  The F-150 is over at my place.  He follows me everywhere.  If I need in the bed for some reason I just do it. I have a general idea where he is about every 30 seconds but it's not every second of every hour.  It's such a large and heavy tailgate that a damper should be in it already.  It's also very high off the ground.  So I'm going to order one and install.  My son has had the same issue.  It's only one of many hazards.  Living on the water we also need to keep him from drowning.  Tailgate is just a drop in the bucket but if you can fix the hazard you do it.

Just make him wear a helmet and a lifejacket if he's outside.   :rofl2:

Good looking truck

Exhaust note was meh.   Still prefer this over modern trucks.

Reviews are starting to come out of the prototypes.
