What corners are they cutting to make that price point? It seems awfully cheap.
the interior is pretty low rent (which is fine for what it is, a cheap truck) and base models are FWD...the base model in Canada is $26k, but add freight and fees and you're at $28k...not bad, but i'm assuming people want some options...there are several option packages available on the various trims...my guess is, a realistic build will more likely be in the $30-$35k range...you can build one on ford.ca to see how yours would be if you want.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

Its not made by wish.com...... ;D
oh please...the bitching and moaning that went on in that thread and silence in this one shows the hypocrisy and bias in full view.

go read through that thread again if you want...it's mind boggling the exact same critiques aren't being said here, in a vehicle with less power, less towing capability, a lower rent interior and FWD in most trims...if this had the H badge on it, you guys would lose your :censor:, just like you did with the Santa Cruz.

well, at least you're honest...i appreciate that.  :P

They put some thought into making that 4.5 ft bed useful:

Speaking of the tailgate, it offers three different postures: fully closed, all the way open and, by repositioning the support cables on the sides, it can be locked in a mid-position, which allows you to haul four-by-eight building material across the tops of the Maverick's wheel wells. All in, this truck can handle 18 sheets of three-quarter-inch plywood without having to load them in at a janky angle. And that is damn impressive. Locked in the mid-position, the Maverick's tailgate can support a husky 400 pounds.

The Flexbed also features up to eight bed tie-downs including convenient D-rings, two cleats on the tailgate that double as bottle openers, there are four threaded holes in the bed sides so you can mount various accessories like an aftermarket Ford cargo management system (or ones you create yourself) and the bed features eight stamped pockets to accommodate two-by-fours and another two that fit two-by-six dimensional lumber so you can make your own cargo dividers or even install a false floor for maximum versatility.

Maybe learned from the old Sport Trac that a bed shouldn't be ornamental

Well, Fords been building trucks for a while, whenever they fail to hit a mark it baffles me because they should know what they are doing. Still should have done at least 5' foot bed, but if it can haul all of that, I'll give it a pass.
Lighten up Francis.....

Would have preferred the Bronco Sport's round headlights, but nice little truck overall!

Fitting in a regular garage was higher on the priority list me thinks.

Yeah this bitching about the Hyundai pickup and this one is completely different.  Hyundai is a styling and lifestyle experiment and Ford is a gateway “truck”.  One is made specific for a small group of buyers and the other is made for a wide range of users.

I like the massive towing capacity of the Hyundai, I like the bigger turbo engine, I think it looks more futuristic, and I think the interior is going to be vastly superior.

The Ford Maverick is a lot cheaper, has a standard hybrid powertrain, has a much more useful bed and payload, and offers more variety in options.

In a way these two compact “pickups” are so different it feels like comparing apples to oranges.

If you want styling, camping, and towing get the Hyundai.  If you want a cheap pickup for hauling stuff in the bed get the Ford.

My dad currently has a previous generation Ranger and I could see them going with this to replace it.

^ I actually can't even remember what I said about the Santa Claus truck, I'll have to go back and look.  I think I said it actually looks good.

Edit: It was about the 4' bed.  This one is 4.5 feet, so 12.5% bigger, so way different.   :P

Pity the rear seat users

Actually watched the Doug Demuro review today and there is actually a decent amount of room.

Doubt this will be bought as a primary family vehicle.  I can see the rear seats being used 'occasionally' - somebody like Brig who's outdoorsy, and might occasionally pick up a third person to go on a hike.

I can definitely see a vehicle like this being popular with empty nesters.

Wouldn't have minded a smaller 'supercab' version, with the extra length going into a 5.5/6 ft box

Most people running one of these would have an SUV to haul people around

We'll see. If this takes off (as it should) maybe that as well as a AWD hybrid will be in the works

Ford has never been shy about making multiple variants of its pickups

i'm not whining...i'm pointing out the :censor: hypocrisy in here...where's the complaints about the small bed???...lack of power???...pricing proximity to a full size???

nope, it's only crap when Hyundai or Kia do it...Fob already said so. ::)

This "little" truck is going to be huge for Ford. 20 grand (US) for a crew cab? Yes please! Kudos to them for not messing around and offering a hybrid power standard.
from what i've started to read about, the base trim might be more of a fleet vehicle...low price, good fuel economy, decent payload (pharmacy/car parts delivery vehicle, etc).

I was busy at work today, didn’t have time to fully review specs. The argument has already been made against a small bed, the exception here is that Ford has shown how it’s useful for something besides a suitcase.

And yes, you are whining, and sounding like you are in a political thread. Poor Hyundai, gets treated different.

the Maverick bed is 54 inches long...the Santa Cruz is 52.1...yea, that extra 1.9 inches is world breaking. ::)

go read the Santa Cruz thread, and apply all the same arguments here then.

I think Ford has a success here - this will inflict another blow in the sedan market and (me thinks) will also hurt the Escape.

Yeah that's what I would want. Something similar to what I have now.
