Did you test drive it? I have to say I am mightily impressed with my BIL Lightning.

You keep saying this.  It what way is it impressive?

Powerful, comfortable, refined ride with independent rear suspension , silent. BIL had it for 8 months now, no issues. And it gets cold where he is.

Yup.  Another thing to keep in mind is that Ford is going to have the Tesla NCAS chargers and use of Tesla superchargers starting early 2024.  And in 2025, their port will exactly match that of Tesla.  That is reason enough for me to wait as we drive all over and we would much prefer the Tesla supercharging network than Electrify America.  Next-door neighbour has a Tesla and he has road tripped to California with zero issues.

Supercharging is still half the cost of gas, he says.  And about 1/5 the cost if charging at home.

That’s the same guy in the CBC story that Steve referred to. Wow he is making world news for a defective Fast Charger. Many years ago the coolant pump seized in our 1988 Volvo 740. Had to call a taxi to get home with the wife and kids. I should have called the press, I’d be famous now!  :rofl2: :rofl2:

I test drove the XLT with the extended range battery.  The truck was fast, and quiet.  One-pedal driving was insanely good.  I really liked the Ford Lightning.  It's just that interest rates are way too high right now.  I'll likely get one once interest rates stabilize.

I hear you, interest rates are insane these days.

I am about 85,000 on the CyberTruck reservation line. Not really a truck guy, may sell it and get something else. Let's see the prices and how it drives

We already know prices!

Elon said $39,900 US and they would be delivered in 2021.

Also looks like the much touted exoskeleton might not be practical..

What about being a racist and/or supporting and re-Tweeting hate speech?

Seems like they don't take that seriously either....

Cool.

I still think PHEV is the way to go for a vehicle that will tow trailers on extended roadtrips.  This F-150 wouldn't make it the 315km from Winnipeg to Blue Lake, ON while towing a trailer, which is a trip we're doing this summer (COVID willing).   Charging infrastructure is a little sparse along that route, too.

As a daily driver/local excursion vehicle, this is pretty cool though.

ANYWAY, this is set to go on sale next year?  An actual, bonafide fully electric truck that will legitimately go on sale in a year.

C/D discusses towing in a sidebar: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a36481590/ford-f150-lightning-range-towing/

They are clearly not there yet for towing. Is there a business opportunity in recovering e vehicles that have run out of juice from the sides of highways? A quick recharge or are we flat bedding them all?
For those that tow seriously, yeah they are not there. But they are few and far between these days (from what I see) and for those that tow, I am sure that the V8 is still there for ya

We live in different places but a lot of trucks tow, just not constantly. Think about Harry Homeowner with a double axle bunk model trailer. A handful of of trips a year with a it  and a range near 200k kms is not going to cut it. Looks to be a great option for fleets though when vehicles come back to the yard every night. The golf cart model. Won't work too well when vehicles are at a location for extended peeriods although they could charge them with on site diesel generators I suppose.  ;D

Thats exactly where this thing will shine, golf cart models. As for running all your tools off of it, yeah, great, and how do I get home?? No, this as a fleet vehicle, sure, as an actual replacement for a truck, naaah.
I think you serious truck guys underestimate the number of urban cowboys out there that this will suit very, very well. Home Depot runs, daily commuter family vehicle that the modern truck needs to be.

Serious work truckers, long distance drivers, and those that need to tow often...yeah ICE is still your best bet.
85% of F150 buyers are urban cowboys :-)…

Betcha this guy is not too happy about the latest price reductions either.

I drove the same route with my Corolla on my way to/from Wisconsin.  Filled up four times; gas stops took about 10 minutes.

And probably cost very close to the same in gas as would roadside EV charging. Just heard today BC Hydro plans to increase rates on public EV chargers by 15% Sept 1. It’ll come, charging EVs at hop or outside of will become more and more expensive.

The thing is…you don’t charge every week in one of these because you don’t have to…right now all of you driving gas cars and paying carbon tax are actually paying people like me to drive EVs for free [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I am SO riding this trend till the end…!

…that’s normal price for a 1/2 ton nowadays…

I mean you can drive for free on a much cheaper Kona EV or Nissan Leaf….your point is moot, it was my choice to buy an EV truck to replace my gasser F150…
