I find some EV fan boys are like vegans and Leafs fans  ;D Nothing wrong with any of those, but they sure have hella strong opinions and love to show that their views are superior.
Hey, I'm a Leaf fan....

The EV up front cost will always be higher….the era of a $20k (is there even something out there that costs this little, maybe Kia or Nissan)? car is over - I think we will see cheap EV @35k+ once you account for future inflation and costs.

I’m the future, people shopping for that bottom range might have to buy used or not have a car anymore…

Shhh we are decades away from getting close to commercially viable hydrogen - if we ever get there.

ZEV mandates are here though, 2026 (3y out?) is the first 20% requirement and then 60%…

Any car maker not taking them seriously will be in serious trouble in Canada and many parts of the US…

There are consultations happening right now to increase the carbon tax target from $170/2030 to $500/2030 to help drive the change even quicker - I am dead serious!!

Gov wants us off carbon, including home heating, etc…

I’m just enjoying the early adopter benefits - cheap hydro, rebates….eventually all of that will go.

I would vote for any party, even the NDP, that would cancel/repeal every bit of Net zero legislation and also the legislation that makes impossible to export our oil and gas to/from   either coast.

I would certainly revitalize the oil pipeline to the East coast regardless of what the Quebec government or the local natives think of it.

But I might insist that the publicly available cars and trucks be limited to 2 litre engines or EV.   No more 6-7 litre pickup trucks to drive to work.
The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution.

…and we are not decades away from an effective power grid?

Home heating.  BC is regulating electric furnaces for all new home builds while at the same time, is sending natural gas to countries that don’t give a :censor: about the environment and who are the largest offenders in CO2 emissions.

Funny times we live in.

I don't think they will care..and could see them leaving our market.

Canada isn't a terribly important car market globally..not even Top 10.

The one place Canada does well is cheap and small cars...and that market will evaporate with any EV mandate.

So people will buy used ICE cars. I'm guessing used prices will go up..

Interesting...

Thinking ahead and how to ensure they will be able to provide a steady stream of hydro….

Sounds great to me, they will be ready for 2030!

With all the talk here about ICE being superior to EV in cold weather well it’s our ICE XC40 who ended up back to the dealer today. Started acting up last week, turtle icon in the dash and 35kph to speed. Called the dealer, well we see that sometime, let it warm up real well and it will go away, sure enough it did. Then yesterday again, I thought maybe bad gas or water in the gasoline, put a can of deicer in the tank, let it sit, then back to normal, no icon or check engine. Good!

This morning my wife takes it to go shopping 30 minutes from home. All well on the way in, when she tries to leave there, turtle again. Luckily she is close to the Volvo dealer so she took it there using back streets and drooped it there.

Just facts..  ;)

Sorry, what are you babbling about?

It is a fact that EVs suffer in very cold weather.

If you are confirming that your Volvo is garbage, okay fine.  But where is the comparison?

Yea, the last dependability study I saw had Volvo near the bottom.

Even Alfa Romeo was more reliable!

But yea...doesn't change the fact that EVs suffer in winter.
