If it is a Japanese model, originally sold in Tokyo, I'm curious why it isn't RHD

All I know is that it was special ordered by this Canadian guy.

In Japan having LHD European car was/is a bit of a status thing so its not unusual to find BMWs, Porsches, etc in LHD there. Seemed to be close to half to half when I was looking at importing a car for a German car. Less so for the French and Italian makes.

For stereo upgrade the Continental radio is a very clean upgrade that retains period correct lighting as the rest of the dash instrumentation. While it does stream Bluetooth, I don't think you can plug/charge your phone into it. Still, for the money, it is a solid buy. I am going to install one in my dad's 993 that still has the stock Becker CD player.

There is also the Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 which is a classic looking unit with modern functionality. These are quite a bit more money than the Continentals though.. I think around $550. My dad's 3.2 Carrera will get one of these to replace an aftermarket CD player as Blaupunkt was the period correct stereo for most 911s from the 1980s and it will look right at home in the dash.

And of course, if money is no object you always have the option of the Porsche "Classic" stereo with navigation. But this one is $$$$...

These are the exact two that I was thinking of. I already have the Continental in the Targa - I have to speak to the buyer and see if he wants it. If not, I'm sorted.

The Porsche Classic one is REALLY expensive... the Blaupunkt would be the way I'd go if I have to buy one again. We just put one in for a client's 993 Turbo at the shop this week and it's really sharp.

Congrats! Love these ones and should be a lot of fun over the summer.

This wouldn't happen to be the one that Johnny (from Calgary but no longer on the forum) owned or just looks very similar. I remember him coming to Toronto to buy it and we all got together for dinner.

No sir... I'm not sure what Johnny had but it had to be a different car.

Yup, the Blaupunkt is a sweet unit. Love how they make the front look like there is a cassette deck, but it is in fact just a flip down cover to conceal the ports. The backlighting colour is fully adjustable too so it looks great in any 80s or 90s era Audi, VW, BMW or Mercedes.

Congrats again, I saw this car in person last night and it is very bit as nice as 'The Hire' describes. Much more his style too as the Targa was sort of a rolling project, vs. this which is a nicely sorted driver.

The 964 is truly a classic and was a significant advancement over its predecessor, the Carrera 3.2.

This is a great interview with Ben Dimson, the designer of the 964: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SmbRUX5pN4

I remember corresponding with the author about 20 years ago about Porsche infomation.  He wrote a pretty good book about the 964, and then a few more about other Porsches

Correct...  last time I spoke to Johnny about that, Quad, he assured me it was still with someone in his family.  I would regularly harass him about that car and selling it without giving me a shot at it.  Also, I'm 99% sure that Johnny's was a C2, not a C4.  Same colour though inside and out.

~400km in one week with the car. It's every bit as wonderful as I'd imagined. Because of my OCD, I'm going to do an engine-out over the winter when the car is in storage, just to make sure it's perfect. We replaced all of the fluids, and put new tires on it as well. A bunch of little things.

As I write this, the car is being detailed inside and out, 3-stage paint corrected and ceramic coated. The paint is coming out looking gorgeous - this is Midnight Blue Metallic.

I put a Blaupunkt SQR 46 DAB stereo in it, a re-creation of the legendary unit from the time of this 911, very popular amongst the Porsche club. It looks great, period correct, and sounds fine with the stock speakers, now that I added an amp.
