An air-cooled 911 has been on my "must-have" list since forever, and many here know that about a decade ago, I passed on a '91 964 around $10,000-12,000 assuming that it'd be even cheaper down the road. Boy was I wrong.
The above is a quote from my thread from when I bought the red Targa. A car that I loved in concept, but was just not the right fit ultimately. Almost poetically coincidental, that exact '91 964... THE very same car from 2009, ended up for sale. My friend did end up buying it 12 years ago when I passed on it, and treated it very well.
He had to unload it for personal reasons, and decided to give me an insanely below-market deal under the condition that I keep it as part of my fleet, and give him first right of refusal if I ever decide to sell. Happy to oblige. This is the one that got away, and I was able to move the red Targa to a friend as well to make space for it.
This is a 1991 Carrera 4, originally purchased by a diplomat at a Porsche Center in Tokyo. I have a bunch of paperwork showing that it was brought to Ontario in 1996, and run on red embassy plates until my buddy bought it in 2009. Have the stack of records from Porsche Downtown Toronto from 1996-2019 as well. It wasn't put on the road last year.
128,000km on the clock, I've known it since it had 98k in 2009. Interesting points as it's a Japan model - no rear wiper or centre brake light. No sunroof. The interior is navy blue (called "Cobalt", apparently, but still have to do more research.
I'm over the moon. It's home now and awaiting new tires and full service on Monday. Needs absolutely nothing as my buddy is a huge car guy and kept it immaculate. I'll be putting some sort of stereo in for Bluetooth audio functionality. Thinking about the Continental TR4812 I put in the Targa, or maybe a Blaupunkt unit. Open to recommendations within reason - the wallet is still in recovery!
