Nice! Our boy had a rougher Mazda 3 for a bit. Great teenager car especially with the stick. He got truck fever and sold it.

That's awesome, well done!

Put in some time today working on the 3, looks like it's gotta bad ballast, voltages are all over the place! Went to the scrap yard to see if I could pull some headlight assemblies, but none matched. Managed to pull some parts for Bella's Son's 3, got him some wiper arms, rear passenger side grab handle & an overhead console for the sunroof switches because his sunroof stopped working... and now it works! He was pretty stoked about it, will have to text Oliver's brother who sold us the car & the tilt feature didn't work when we got it. Eventually the slide feature stopped working as well, but now it does.

Found a car at the Kenny-U-Pull in Cornwall that has the correct headlight assemblies, so we're thinking of going there tomorrow.

Man, what a pain for headlights. I appreciate that you always include pics in these though :)

Hopefully replacing the ballast does the job and that's all it is. Iunno if you remember my Escalade saga with the bad ballasts...Short version; replacement ones would work for a few days and then die. There had to be something up with the circuit that was frying them (I went through at least 3) and I couldn't find it, steady voltage, no shorts, etc when I tested. I ended up running a relay harness direct to the battery to power the ballast and using the truck's original headlamp circuit only for on/off power to the relay. 4(?) years later no issues.

^Man, I do remember that now! Crap!

I am getting a steady voltage to the headlight, but then off the ballast it's all over the map with one ballast, the other one has some very low voltages coming out. Both lights will spark up for a second & then crap out. And yeah, it's a lotta work to get at the headlights.

Hopefully it's just bad ballasts. But if it keeps giving you trouble don't keep throwing ballasts at it.

I used a universal relay harness (https://www.amazon.ca/Relay-Harness-Xenon-HID-Conversion/dp/B00554PR6I and universal ballasts (in my case for D1R, but you'll obviously need to match your bulb type) https://www.amazon.ca/Xenon-Ballast-Headlight-Control-Module/dp/B07JZ9H5BD

I spent days trying to figure out the fault, when it took like 2 hours to wire in the aftermarket setup.

Went to Kenny-U-Pull in Cornwall today, no luck & then over to the one in Montreal an hour away & no luck.

During the drive we deducted that the driver's side ribbon cable from the ballast to the light was most likely our culprit & shorting out the ballasts because when we installed a good one on it it worked for a bit then crapped out. My buddy Paul that I bought the car off had 2 more ballasts at home & dropped them off late this afternoon, just as we got back from Montreal. We installed one on the passenger side headlight assembly & it worked. Took the assembly to the driver's side & it worked. Tried the other ballast he brought & it was dead. Didn't want to fry another ballast on the driver's side assembly so we didn't swap it into that one. Buttoned up the passenger side & will be ordering a ballast & ribbon cable tomorrow.

Took the ignitor cable apart today, judging by the burn marks I'm guessing it shorted & fried the ballast, 99% sure that was the problem. New/used ballast & ignitor cable ordered off eBay... now wait.

^thx buddy!

Car needs summer tires, found a set of Continental DSW-06 at Canadian Tire on sale so we grabbed them. We have these on Bella's BMW & I've been impressed with the overall performance of the tire & the tread life as well.

Only crappy part is 2 of the tires were made in 2017, one is 3rd week & the other is 4th week. Other 2 are 10th week of 2019. Is what it is & I'm sure they'll be fine... and for $610 all in I'm not going to complain.

Is that tire good enough for the AMG? Doesn't look very 'sporty'.
