Gurgie Jr's new ride
« on: April 14, 2021, 08:26:33 pm »
Gurgie Jr turns 18 tomorrow, so a birthday & high-school graduation graduation present for him.

2011 Mazda 3 GT - it has 198,000kms on it & was owned by my buddy Paul who was looking to unload it after he got himself a CX-5 a couple months ago. Car is in pretty good shape, but has an issue with the drivers side headlight assembly not working. He's changed out the ballast & bulbs & can't get it to work, but when he takes the passenger side assembly off & hooks it onto the driver's side harness it works, but the driver's side hooked up on the passenger side does not work. Thinking I'm just gonna go to the scrap yard this weekend & get a driver's side assembly & swap it out. Other than that it sounds like there's also an exhaust leak that we'll have to take care of as well & then it'll be ready for Ontario Safety. It has brand new winter tires on it, but will need summers as they're shot, so that's another need as well.

It's gonna be a great 1st car for him & it didn't cost much. Insurance will be more than the car, but that's life.

OOOh, didn't know it was the GT model.  They definitely look better and have a few more features.

By the sounds of it, they're not halogen bulbs.  That explains why they don't have that stupid clip system for the headlights.

That is awesome, great first car for the big lad. Great dad move.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

These used Mazda3's are great used buys. Reliable, fun to drive and depreciate quicker than Civics and Corollas. The GT's 2.5L engine is punchy but thirsty. Mazda seems to have solved the body rust issue with the 2nd generation.

Doesn't your step son also have a black Mazda3 GT as well?

Mint, I love it.  These are some of my favorite small cars.  Is it a stick?

Thanks guys, hard deal to pass up, even with the repairs it'll need to get it safetied.

Yes, it's a manual with a black leather interior.

Bella's son has a charcoal grey 2010 GT as well that we bought from Oliver's brother almost 2yrs ago now.

Nice. Does an exhaust leak need to be fixed to pass safety? My neighbor bought a POS Ford Escape last fall and the thing has a huge exhaust leak. Its facking loud...I have a feeling it was just "given" a safety certificate.

Pretty certain the exhaust leak needs to be fixed in order to pass safety. Gonna have a look at it this weekend & get a better idea of where the leak might be.

If the rear wheel ells are not rusting then that shows this was a well taken care of 3. Looks good for 10 years 200k kms.

I paid 3 times as much for my 1st car in 1990 which was a used 1986 Mazda 323LX... no AC, manual steering, manual windows, crank sunroof, 13" alloys, 82hp... this Mazda 3 is like a Mercedes compared to what I started with

The lad earned it, being Gurgie's pit crew for all those years
