Just has to be ...

No, but I would fit right in with the guys in my neighbourhood.  Around 7-8pm, they lift up the garage doors, light up some cigars, and look at their automatic Corvettes.  Funny I never see them being driven!

Lighten up Francis.....

There's a reason Corvette guys shy away from manuals - they don't know how to drive 'em  ;D

Congrats on the 128i! Nice unit with such low mileage, and great colour combination. I never drove those but I'd prefer the purity of the atmo six'ed 128i vs the faster but more fragile turbo mill of the 135i.

Very nice, love that it is an actual colour and not a black interior. Looking forward to more pictures and driving impressions.  With it being 9+ years old but really low mileage what were they asking for this gem?

What did he even do? Ride the clutch? Does not compute.

AND the camera guy walks in front of the car!  ???

I'm thinking he had the brake pedal to the floor, feathered the clutch out, and subsequently roasted it, because too much brake.

A brake stand is all about feathering the brakes enough for the rear tires to able to spin, while the front wheels hold you in place.

Nice car! The 1-series is one of the few modern BMWs that is true to what made the brand popular 30 years ago, for that reason it's one of the few that I actually like. Congrats!

Thanks for the kind words, guys.  Since I owned a very similar 2008 back in the day, I would consider myself a motivated purchaser....I knew what I wanted and was willing to pay pretty much top dollar for a nice example when the opportunity presented itself.  This showed up on Kijiji over the weekend and I pounced on it as soon as I got the alert.  I ended up paying $16k, after having it checked it out by my indy.  When I told him I was bringing in a 1-Series, his first reaction was "I hope it's not a 135".  I've been active on the various BMW forums long enough to know they can be ticking time bombs and I don't need the stress/worry.  There is not much to go wrong here with the N52 being such a known quantity....the water pump and thermostat should be done proactively at some point, but at the rate I drive that is years down the road.

The real unicorn for a BMW enthusiast is a low mileage 128i with the Sport package and a 6-speed, like these:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2010-bmw-128i-6-speed-manual/
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2012-bmw-128i-6-speed-manual/

For me, I needed/wanted an auto, which also makes the Sport package tough to find.  I've lived with the non-Sport seats for about 250,000km across two BMWs and I was always pretty happy with them.

At the end of the day, there are always a couple of these for sale in the Maritimes for $8 to $10k, but normally with 150,000km+ and no history.  This car was obviously more expensive but the price difference bought me a lot of what should be trouble-free driving.

Sounds like your went in knowing your stuff, hard to go wrong in those situations. I know I am not a great example because I tend to buy junk and make it nice, but for a car you intend to keep long-term, buying the best one you can find is usually the right strategy.

I'd hardly call any of your rides "junk", even in as-found state (ok, maybe that MGB in the collapsed garage...)

Took a quick photo in my parking lot today, needs a good detail:

Maybe Brig can move the posts over from the Buying, Selling, & Leasing area over to this one?

Congrats! Looks great.

In my street, there are 2 manual 135s.

Your wish is my command!

(Not really, but that was fun to say.)   ;D

Lovely ride, by the way.  Really nice colour.

Thanks Brig!

My previous BMWs were silver and then black....I was ready for a real colour.  The dark blue shades have always been my wife's favourite on these cars, so that certainly helped the WAF on this one.

The 1-Series had that little bulldog look, tiny and muscular - BMW lost that with the 2-Series that followed.

Beauty!  Love the colour.  Nobody does blue like BMW and the I6 is a sublime engine.  Many congrats!

I don't love the look of the 2....but I still went and drove one.  The 4-cylinder got a big "meh" from me.  Not a bad car by any means, but the 1 still feels a little special and old school BMW.  A certain je ne sais pas quoi, if you will.
