Need advice on mags for Lexus RX350
« on: March 21, 2021, 05:54:09 pm »
I am researching for a friend you just bought a 2019 Lexus RX350. He currently has 255/50ZR20 on 8.5JJx20 rims. He got winter tires but they were not on rims. The winter tires are Blizzaks 235/55R20.

I found a set of 20 Inch mags off a 2013 Toyota Venza. They are in great shape. Like new. They have TPMS sensors.

Using this web site this is what I have figured out. https://www.wheel-size.com/

Bolt pattern (5x114.3) and Bore size (60.1) are the same.
Offset for OEM Lexus is ET30 and the Venza rims are ET35
Lexus rims are 8.5 by 20 but Venza's are narrower at 7.5 by 20

The 235mm winter tire should fit on the 7.5 rims. They are the max recommend width for that rim. But then again the summer 255mm are the max recommended size for the 8.5 inch OEM rim.

I think these should fit fine. Any comments or opinions?
Thanks

My only comment is that you're calling wheels 'mags'.  It really dates you to my father's generation  ;D

Unless I made a mistake putting in the numbers, everything seems to check out.

Wasn't originally called mags because of magnesium? Old wheels were made out of it?

I still call them mags or rims
One of the biggest aftermarket wheel companies in the US during the 60s was US Mags (part owned by racing legend Parnelli Jones).

They became American Racing wheels.

No mistake made. What a great website for checking fitment.

www.rimsntires.com

Thanks for that.

I now know the Venza 20 inch rims/alloys (not mags  :D) will fit on RX350 but I am still not clear on whether 235/55/r20 tires are too wide to fit on the Venza's 7.5 inch wide rim.

Some on internet say they are too wide but I suspect these are people driving performance cars and worried about some minimal effects on handling.

These rims are just to mount winter set of tires.

What say you???? Thanks

See where it says "Rim sizes" on my screenshot.

I look at it again and played with the web site myself. Now I see what you are referring to. As you change the width of the tire the system gives you the acceptable rim width range.

IMO narrower rims are better suited for winter use as you don't always see curbs and other stuff under snow; relatively wider tire provides them better protection against curb rash and dings. And FWIW my OEM rims are also 7.5" if Im not mistaken and tires are 235mm wide, I think it's a good combo.
