Given the supply challenges we've had, Tim is so lucky to be getting the car right now. I'm glad it worked out.

Congrats!

Saw my first Mk8 Golf R in the flesh driving home last night.    Still don't love the new headlights, but overall quite nice.    It was the dark blue but with some gold colored wheels.   Looked sharp with an older WRX/STi vibe.

Must be aftermarket wheels as there appears to only be the one option from VW?

Interested to see the eventual comparisons with the upcoming Corolla GR.

Thanks to Patrick_D1’s help I kept the faith for my 4th GTI.  Mk 2 twin cam, Mk 3 ‘too slow’,  Mk 5  and now a Mk 8 R.  Missed the notoriously unreliable Mk 4 and had a 330xi and an APR chipped  Audi A4 instead. Between 5 and 8 needed a bigger car ‘cos of Mrs Tpl’s illness.

You've got a real history with these. It'll be interesting what your thoughts are how this one compares

Called in at the dealer this Tuesday morning and my car should be at the dealer a day or two  after Easter.   It is at Ajax which I gather is VW's collection point for sw ont vehicles.
I ordered the car with  a cash deposit on July 15th last year.

This car from order to next week has been delayed by:
Pandemic phases 2,3,4.
Supply chains for chips
supply chains for wiring harnesses.
Delay as cars with no sunroofs de-prioritized on production line.
A war
And finally a religious holiday.

But I missed the price increase.
No HST rise in the budget
Spring seems to have arrived so don't have to but winter tires for a bit.

Oh well.  All I have to do now is to do a show and tell....maybe I can just copy Patrick_D1's photos.

A huge congrats! Looking forward to the pictures!

Make sure to drop me a line when it comes in. There's a ton of "set-and-forget" customizations possible in the car that greatly streamline and enhance the experience.

Thank you Patrick,    I'll PM you when I have read the manual!.   Looks like it will be at the dealer Tuesday, PDI and then off for the ceramic treatment.  So most likely the 27th.

Hey Patrick,  how about one of these for Canada, should be a big hit at a  reasonable price.

I would think it would see well in North America.  I gather there is a Golf R Wagon in some places as well.   Considering how people in NA like powerful cars and SUVs should be a no-brainer.

And considering how the biggest gripe about the Tiguan is the lack of power.

Yup. My mom was a VW owner for 20+ years but a quick test drive in the Tiguan was very underwhelming. Not enough power for sure given the size of the vehicle. Needs about 30-40 more HP or at the very least, an option for more powerful engine on higher trims. She ended up going with the CX-5 Turbo.

They should be using that 2.0 in the same spec as it is in the Atlas.  That would make the Tiguan somewhat compelling.  As it is, I can't think of any reason to buy one over a CX-5 other than a bit more interior space.

I'd argue there's more than a "bit" of extra space in the Tiguan.  The CX-5 is pretty small inside.

I like the exterior the Tiguan, particularly after the refresh.

Yes, I agree. Even if it only came on the higher Tiguan trims like the R-Line or Highline/Execline.

Oh for sure, the Tiguan is cavernous and a good choice if you need the extra room. I should also say that the Tiguan drives very nicely. Nice steering and brake feel. Just needs more oomph.

My cousin and his wife bought a new Tiguan just before Xmas.  It feels huge.  So much space in it.  Same goes for the CR-V and Rogue.  Maybe it's not a case of the Tiguan being large, but the CX-5 being small.  The CX-5 seems to be sized similarly to the previous Tiguan (which I thought was a better vehicle, even though it was smaller than the current gen).

I had a short discussion with my VW dealer today.     We both agree that minimally the GTI powertrain in the Tig or even better...the R powertrain should bolt right in.

Did you know that Australia gets a Tiguan R.   In NA it is deemed the it would compete with Audi too much.  Who needs an SQ5 when Tiguan R would be available.
