AAARRGGGHHHH.   A ship full of VAG cars  caught fire near the Azores on it way from Emden to Rhode Island.     I doubt my car would be on it as I suspect ships full of Canadian cars come straight to Halifax.

Have any Golf Rs or GTIs landed in Canada yet?
I love it when a plan comes together.

Not as many as we'd like, but yes, around 500 so far.

Somebody in my neighbourhood has a new R in black. I walk by their house all the time but have yet to see them to ask their thoughts. Also see a new GTI parked downtown quite often.

Yeah, good review.  Interesting they are advocating for the manual.

Ouch.

I have been reading a lot of mixed reviews to be frank - lifeless steering, sterile, and of course the interior.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-OunUSIFew&t=313s

Sounds to me like a used Mk7.5 Golf R with a rock solid extended warranty would be the way to go.

EXCEPT, this one is available in a stick. The Mk7.5 isn't.  I wonder if TST would change their tune about the 'fizz' of the Mk8 R if they tried it with a manual?

Yeah, I thought so. I know it wasn’t for a bit (maybe the MK6 R?) but thought a stick has been available for quite a while.

Not sure what to make of that last review, but tbh I only watched a couple minutes. Looked like they were driving at 6/10ths down some nice roads. Didn’t really listen to what they had to say.

I’ll put more stock in reviews from places like Car and Driver. Sounds like the car handled the Lightning Lap really well. I’m sure I’d absolutely hate all the capacitive touch nonsense, but not sure yet if it’s a deal breaker.

^^ Yeah, I’ve heard the name before.

Honestly, I just don’t have the patience for most video reviews in general. Takes 20 minutes to get the same information I could read in five.  :P

Car and Driver has referred to Matt Farah in the past - he is well known tool in the industry.

I’ll watch a Randy Pobst video. Gets to the point and knows what he’s talking about.
