Hmmmm.  This might mean 2 things to me.     1.  My Golf R will be delayed further.   2. When it does arrive it will have updated and better software.

Or... 3. I will have given up on it and bought a Tesla

Rs are already being delivered.

Yup. Saw one two days ago. Looks great in the flesh.

Ouch..https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2021/12/report-every-new-vw-golf-has-been-recalled-in-germany/

This is basically to bring those cars up to the same level of software that the North American cars have already launched with. Should not impact us. There are benefits to launching nearly 2 years later...

I know.   Haven’t yet seen one but mine does have a build date.

As far as when you get it, you could be like me who was informed on Friday that they don't know where my car is (not a VW but shipped from Germany.  They think.  Maybe.  Could be.)

Car&driver

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a37200521/2022-volkswagen-golf-r-us-drive/

The performance with the DSG and launch control is keraaazy.  Looking forward to seeing a manual test to be sure.  Strangely, at least according to Car and Driver, the car they tested had slower 30-50 and 50-70 times than the MK7 R.  Not clear why as the transmission is the same.  Maybe more lag?

No :censor:.  That is seriously quick.

Don't give up.  It is a wicked ride.

Supply chain issues are very real. Mrs. Hire's V90 Cross Country is somewhere between the Ontario Volvo rail yard and the dealership (current ETA sometime this coming week), and my IS 500 Launch Edition is stuck at the port, with an ETA of Jan 14.

This one I’m having a tough time on. On one hand, I love the idea of it. On the other, I love my LS460 and can’t exactly get rid of it due to the family provenance (Mrs. Hire’s late grandfather’s last car).

The thought occured to me that you are far, far less attached to any 'new' cars than you are to your older vehicles.

I think it's very likely that you get rid of the IS500 after 2-3 years in favour of another new car.

On a different note, maybe it's the rum and eggnog speaking (I'm 3.5 deep), but I'm certainly living vicariously through you and your automotive journey.  Keep on keeping on, and please stick around this forum.  I'm enjoying the ride (Quad, don't twist my words, :censor: - almost as bad as when I told my buddy I 'like driving other men's sticks', referring obviously to driving other guys cars that are manuals).

Right. New cars for me have been opportunistic purchases that have allowed me to enjoy them for a while by capitalizing on excellent deals (not so much with this market) and get out of them even or with a small profit. Both Yukons (‘19 and ‘20 Denalis), my wife’s G70, etc.

Huh...  many years ago I had a similar situation with an A4 I had ordered.  After tracking it for a month, the dealer "lost" it around Montreal apparently. To salvage the deal, they offered me another A4 with more options in a different colour that was already on the lot.

And just this past week, after being strung along by the local Audi dealership wondering if/when his new SQ5 was going to arrive for too long, he pulled the plug on the deal and has a new X3 on order instead now.

Thanks for sharing.  The M340 is still at 'port' awaiting a chip and currently under a do not ship order.  The funny thing is that the dealer told me in early November that it was a matter of days before it would arrive.  Now they are thinking March....'ish.

It will be worth the wait…what are you currently driving?
