I want to say to Patrick that if you are going to have a lost leader then you should stop with the arteon
nonsense and bring over the wagon version of this.

Wouldn’t sell any worse and would score major marketing points with the enthusiasts and get some press.

I do like the arteon. But let’s talk this through.

Just bring back the normal wagon... such a shame with a relatively successful sales record they yanked it.

While we are at it might as well ask for the Passat wagon as well.

Curious...Would you have bought the R Wagon over the C43? Might be harder to answer now after a week in the new wagon.

I also think it is one of the more loyal owners groups out there.

IMO, thinking of some combination of mixture of business case for VW that might benefit them, and personal emotional want. And yes Patrick (god he's going to regret resurrecting this thread for the sake of a new car!), if a focus group is ever formed, I'd be happy to take part. I sense other candidates here for that - might pay off big (or just be a pain!  :P ). My personal biggest interest areas are the options and wheels for both the upcoming R and GTi. If these cars are to have two packages, they could capture a wide market by having one 'performance' and one 'luxury'.

My thoughts about Car lineup - A Passat, wagon or otherwise, is passé. The Arteon wagon is gorgeous, a market differentiator too. But no advertising, no sales. And in terms of the sedan lineup, VW should just have Jetta (normal and GLi) and Arteon (normal and wagon). Saves a badly needed overall redesign of the Passat. The Jetta is amost as big anyway, and much better. The Arteon NEEDS "an engine" though. One with more cylinders. At this price point, engine is not a compromise item for many buyers, and its one reason it hasn't sold. Try to infringe on Audi territory, not avoid it at VW's expense.  ;)

Can't say too much, but the wheels on GTI are pretty straight-forward and the top of the range will now be a 19" just like the R. The wheel style is the Adelaide, which looks like this:

Meanwhile, the R will come in a single spec as before. In the U.S. it's "all-in", but for Canada we've opted to keep the sunroof optional. Wheel choice here is also a 19", known as the "Estoril." It's this one:

You joke, but I've gleaned useful - if anecdotal - insights from this forum. Remember, I've been a member since I was in university, so I've had over a decade to take in all the opinions... from the good to the downright silly.

Both look great, including the wheel styling. Gorgeous, if not my favorite styles, but no matter.

However, like most if not all manufacturers, luxury is abandoned. Very disappointed. That's a whole market segment ignored when lots of available cash is being held out!

I'll explain the "most if not all" default trend these days.

It seems the better the trim/price, the more one must for whatever reason suffer the indignities of harshness to get power/handling/options/whatever. How did this dynamic evolve anyway. Even the best of them aren't track cars 90% of the time. Its implied that if a lower trim of GTi is picked, and miss all the upper trim things you want to pay for but aren't allowed to, will avoid the rubber band big wheel small sidewall. DCC is wonderful but doesn't cancel physics. Sorry.

Seems like an 18" with maybe 45 aspect ratio tires (like the GLi, GTi currently has 40 by the way) will certainly never happen in the upper sphere of GTi or R. VW may not notice because these cars could create enough buzz to increase sales vs. previous years anyway. I could buy one of these two and go minus size/aspect ratio to perhaps make a luxury car, but will it be an expensive disaster and why do I have to redesign new.

Hit the tune out loonies button.  :rofl2:

The R wheels look great - not so sure about the GTI though.

Historically VW hasn't had the best wheel designs for their GTI and R.  I think my favourite rims on a modern VW have got to be the turbine wheels on the CC and Arteon.

That's what I had on mine.  The only benefit to them was they were fairly easy to keep clean.

On the A7 Golf R, my favourites were always the Pretoria, which was offered in silver and black. Both of my Rs had the black ones. They're also incredibly light for a factory wheel.

But as someone noted, the Rosario 20" on the Arteon is a work of art (no pun intended). I can't help but stare at the ones on my car on a fairly regular basis.

Alas, I have a 2021 Arteon on the way early next week. Overall I think the car is even prettier, and while I do quite like the wheels, they're just not the same.

Those were by far the best rims on the Golf R.

Here were the rims that I really liked on the old Passat CC.

Yes I loved that car as well.  They had this two tone interior that I loved also.  I also appreciated it being only a 4 seater at the beginning.
