out of curiosity, is VWs 2.0T engine dual injected or just direct injected...if it's just DI, can it have the carbon build up issues?

Wonder what the price is going to be?

Guessing it will be within a couple grand of the old one.

The performance is definitely enticing but that front end hasn't completely grown on me yet.
$60k [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

The last one started at $43K.  No way this hits $60K.
When I bought my Golf R in 2015 it's MSRP was $39,999.  It steadily went up over the years but did add a few things.  Increasing the price of the MK8 is to be expected with the added features, heck just the addition of a sunroof is worth a grand or two.
The previous R was priced very much in line with the rest of the world and it was cheaper than the Audi RS3...

The new Golf R starts at slightly under £40,000 GBP in the UK and starts at around €48,000 EUR in Germany....as a comparison, the Audi RS3 is around £38,500 GBP in the UK.

In Canada the S3 starts at $50k CAD and the RS3 at $65600...

So yeah this R will land between the 2, $60k is very much realistic.

I think Patrick hinted there would be a slight increase but yeah no where near 60K. Probably mid to high 40s.

No one will be disappointed with the pricing. Except maybe our competitors.

Remind me when the CDN release date is.

We'll see them in the fall. Mine should be on the first boat - Lapiz Blue with three pedals. Note that our car will come "fully loaded" except for the crazy titanium valved exhaust (working on it for future years). So it has the larger 19s and bi-level wing not seen on that unit in the Carwow video.

And make it brown! Dear God, make it brown! :rofl2:
Railton

Sadly the Spektrum program is gone, otherwise I'd have had one in brown for sure. But not before I got one in British Racing Green.

Also, all of mine will be manual. The DSG is objectively better in every way. I don't care.

This could bring me back to VW.  Looking forward toward updates from you good Sir.
Didn't you have some "quality" issues?
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

You can't use other markets to determine Canadian prices, USA would be the closest to predicting our pricing but even that can be skewed quite badly.  I remember comparing how my my 2016 Golf R was compared to other markets and Canadian prices was the lowest out of all of them, and I compared to USA, UK, Australia, etc.

I think we will be looking at a $45-$47K price range for this next Golf R.

Gotta love the guy arguing with the Volkswagen Canada executive. It wouldn’t be the Internet if some random guy didn’t know more than a person actually in that field. Haha
I don't think many people on this forum think what Tauri says is factual regardless.  He lost all credibility when he tried to pass off his V6 Mustang as a V8.

I did!  A lot of electronic gremlins.  Swore off VW.

But F me if I don’t find this new one appealing.
How has your Mustang held up so far?

Good.  I had some concerns about third gear lockout but it only happened a couple of times. Thankfully.

Thanks for asking.

How is the GLI?  I have a buddy that just bought one but I haven’t seen it yet.  By all accounts it is a riot to drive.
It's been good.  Less exciting than my Golf R but decent as a bridge vehicle until I get my fun RWD summer sports car in 3 years.

Here is a dyno vid.

a smidge under 340 hp at the crank - with as much as 50 hp more than the MK7 at 4800 rpm.  Torque is way understated as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ5rmIcJBIY

FWIW, 340PS is 335 HP.

Just sayin'.   ;D

Hmmm, can I possibly go 3 VW's in a row (Golf R, GLI, then Golf R again)?

Yes.

Isn't that a little too boring and predictable...wait, I'm an accountant and my bathroom breaks are all at the same time every day...guess this would be the right move.

I would argue a repeatable 12.3s quarter mile isn't boring...

The launch vs the CTR is what got me.  The Civic is not a slow car, and yet the Golf just utterly destroys it.  It's like the Civic launched in reverse.  Ridiculous.

On a roll, yes it was still a little faster than the CTR, but I wouldn't say that's where it's strong suit is.

I'd like to see same but with a manual transmission.  Launch control + DSG + AWD = any 5 year old can do it.

I want to say to Patrick that if you are going to have a lost leader then you should stop with the arteon
nonsense and bring over the wagon version of this.

Wouldn’t sell any worse and would score major marketing points with the enthusiasts and get some press.

I do like the arteon. But let’s talk this through.
While I agree that it would be nice to get a Golf R wagon but if I'm honest I think VW Canada would sell more Arteon wagons than sedans, so why not bring that instead.  https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/new/arteon-shooting-brake.html

That Arteon wagon is gorgeous!  Wow!
